Benchmade 940 owners--can I pick your brains?

For the 940 owners, is the knife's relatively dimunitive stature more than made up for by the utility?

I'd hate to spend $150 and find it's just a little too elegant for my tastes.
Yes. It is a tremendously useful knife for the size. It wouldn't have been in production this long if it didn't function extremely well. I've had mine for 8-10 years. You can also find it for less than $130 *cough* knifeworks *cough* coupon code.

I like the 943 better than the 940. I find the sharper point more useful for opening packages and prepping food. The Ti handled version is heavier than the Al handled version. The C/F model weighs 72gm, the Al version 82gm, and the Ti version 92gm.

The 94x seires always caught my attention, how does the anodizing hold-up on the handles? thanks.

I forgot to mention that the 950 is like the 940 just on steroids. it has the same reverse tanto blade. just heftier.

I think the last time BM change the blade steel of the 940; from 154cm to S30V. However this change happened a long time ago.

From your description of the tasks, a decent pair of scissors might be the better choice. I've found scissors open those little packages and cut tape a lot better and easier than any knife. I'm a knife guy but I also subscribe to the belief that the right tool for the right job prevails.

I have worn through the anodized coating on the 940/943 Aluminum handles in areas along the corners and edges. The anodized Titanium handle slabs seem to hold up much better. The Carbon fiber handles don't wear through because they don't have coating.
