Whats up knife people, i was interested in buying a benchmade 940. i was looking for a g10 knife with an axis lock because i don't like the frn on my griptilian. However i couldn't put my finger on one i really liked. Although the 940 has aluminum handles i fell in love with its design and specs. I was wondering if you guys could give me some specs and info i should know about like the grind of the knife. Is it flat or hollow grind. And does the knife always come with a purple titanium spacer. Does the handle give good grip? Just general stuff i should know.

It is saber grind, flat on each part and not hollow

The green handled one always has a purple backspacer. You could take it out and hit it with steel wool to make it silver, or look up how to anodize titanium and change it to another color (it's pretty easy). Honestly though it's not something you'll notice very often.

The 940 is one of my favorites, if BM is hit or miss on F/F they got mine right. The green anodized finish is durable and has more grip than you would think, and scratches buff right off. The stout"reverse tanto" tip with the long cutting edge gives it a "larger" knife capability in a package that disappears in your pocket. I could do without the purple back spacer but that's how it goes.

Thanks a lot guys. so far everything I'm hearing about this knife it's great. I'm so relived it's. Not hollow ground, I hate hollow ground blades for some reason, I love ffg and saber. And I think the purple is a little girly but it reminds me of my favored super villain, the joker, so it's all good.

I think I might get one of the newly announced CF ones as the green/purple handle has been what has been keeping me from getting one. The S90V is nice too, though I would have been just as happy if they just kept it S30V and knocked $40-50 bucks off the MSRP.

IMHO, the 940 is the best knife Benchmade has ever produced. I've owned lots of them and the 940 is by far my favorite by Benchmade. It's SMOOTH, locks up tight, while disengaging the axis lock, it can be EASILY flicked open from any angle and it just looks cool as heck. My brother loved mine so much that I gave it to him for a Christmas Present. I will be buying another...

Got one in a trade waiting for it in the mail will be my first bench made and axis lock

I got one in a trade a month ago.. It took me awhile to warm up to it.. Now I really like it..

It's incredibly well balanced... It is light and carries really well..

Great knife!

Can't think of one bad thing to say about the 940..

It wasn't until I held a 940 in hand that I really saw the appeal of one.

It's one thing to see a picture online, but to hold it and feel the aluminum handle, feel how smoothly it deploys and how slim it sits in the palm of your hand is another thing.

Love my 940. :)

So this one is on my radar as well, but I think I might prefer the blade-shape of the 943. Does anyone own one or the other (or both) that can speak to the differences/preferences between the two?

My cousin owned and let me use his 943 and I had a 940. The tip is a lot thinner and a lot pointier. You do notice a difference if you have to sfo detail work. Honestly if I were to get another I would probably go with a 943.

There are a huge number of people who have had and used both on this forum though, so I'm sure you will get more detailed answers.

I've had a 943 for about a year. It is an awesome knife. Great edc. The aluminum handle gets scratches up but who cares! Buy one and carry the hell out of it!

940 may be my favorite all time EDC. Larger blade, but so light and slim you don't even know you're carrying it. Smoothest opening Benchmade I've ever handled and easiest to disengage Axis lock, not sticky out of box. In a totally different world than handling a Griptilian. With hardly any effort the blade flies out like it's assisted. Feels great in hand. Just a unique looking knife, and can't say anything bad about it...except that it's now $50 more than it was 6 weeks ago...but that's not the knife's fault.

Only gripe I had was mine came with an almost nonexistent edge. Hopefully at $180 now they make a little more effort.

Just got a 940 2nd BM.... First day at work with it on set. Made many cuts love that I can flick open and closed one hand...

I like the 943 blade shape better than the 940 because I do food prep. Handles available include Titanium, Aluminum, and Carbon fiber.

thanks so much for your input guys i can't wait to sell two of my favorite knives to get this baby. To be honest i like the color of the handle and the tip style of the 940. Im a little conceded about the grip of the handle, and i know the tip of the knife is going to be really strong.

I own one of Warren Osbourne's Benchmades (921S), I like it. The handle is a little skinny, but it is comfortable enough. The only issue I've had is wear, if you care about that. Anodization does not show pocket wear well.
