Benchmade 943 or spyderco paramilitary 2 which one ?

Benchmade 943, takes up less pocket, provides more blade. I predict the spydercultists will adequately cover the opposite position shortly.

I carry my 940 to the office every day because of the above. I happen to be at my cabin now so the Para 2 is in my pocket. Both are great knives. If I could only have 1 it would be the 940. More blade, less pocket.

Is a want or a need?
How will it be used?

Which version of the two are you considering?

Although the BM would take up less pocket space and have more cutting edge.
If its the new EDC, and plain jain version of each, I would say the winner is Paramilitary 2.

I was talking about the 943 ? Is the 940 and 943 the same except for blade shape ?

You could probably get a better grip on a PM2, but the 943 is a more compact package.

Have 2 PM2s and maybe seven or eight 94xs

943 for me.

It definitely doesn't have twice the cost in materials and fit/finish, though. If you can find one at the old price, it's certainly worth it. At the new price versus the $100ish of the PM2, it's harder the stomach for sure. If the argument is with cost aside, the 943 is the easy vote IMO

The 943 is a better office carry. It has a slightly longer blade, a majorly nice fit and finish, and a more delicate tip. The very fine tip is great for work in which you want needle precision. It's a great knife.

The PM2 is arguably better for certain chores, as it's taller blade, full flat grind, flat cutting surface, a much larger handle can make usage with some heavier cutting tasks easier. It is a more comfortable knife for extended usage and it reduces fatigue from extended periods of gripping the knife. The G10 scales are more durable in resisting cosmetic marking/damage than the 943's aluminum handles. However, it has a profile which tends to "scare" some people as it appears larger and "meaner" than it actually is. It lacks the fit and finish of the 943, but is an equally great knife.

I much prefer the PM2 myself, but that doesn't mean you will.
Its my third favorite modern design, behind the Sebenza and Military.
The handle is what I like the most about it, but I also like the compression lock, and the blade shape.
Its distal taper flat ground blade makes it a really great slicer.

You can't really go by what we may tell you though, and need to try both if these are the two you have it narrowed down to.
If you don't have anywhere to handle them buy both and sell the one you like the least, or just keep both.
Get one now and one later if you can't get them both now.

I don't have a 943, but I prefer the 940 over the PM2. As many have already said, it packs a lot of blade in a very compact form factor.

Personally, I'd take the Para 2 for superior ergonomics and I much prefer G10 to aluminum scales. That said, I don't think you can go far wrong either way.

The 940/943 is extremely smooth and has a great blade length to handle ratio. It's light weight and slim.

I just got my first PM 2 today. It's solid and comfy in the hand too.

As stated by a previous member, you cannot go wrong with either knife.

Have a para 2 and handled a 940. Although I want a 943 and will get it eventually, I would probably pick the para over it. FFG, very smooth, crazy good ergos, thumb ramp for excellent control on the blade, fine tip (good thing), G-10, comp lock, great belly, ITS SAYS "GOLDEN COLORADO USA EARTH" ON THE BLADE, etc etc :)

I like aluminum handles, but only for small knives, like my 707. When you get into med sized folders, you need some good grip. Para 2's grip is second to none IMO. Its an amazing all around larger EDC and work knife. Make no mistake, this knife was made to work. The comp lock is one of the strongest and the blade is very thick (but still slices quite well). The blade to handle ratio isnt the best, but the knife is still amazingly light and nimble for the full sized grip you get:thumbup

Ooooh and the para 2 can be opened in at least 5 different ways. 943= 1 way:thumbdn:;)
Thats right, I AM a fanboy!

I have a 940 and PM2, the PM2 definitely gets more pocket time. Especially if your budget is tight I don't believe the 940 delivers performance worth double the price.

Agree, I think they are comparable knives, and the price really makes the biggest difference.
For what's it's worth, I prefer the PM2.

Both are great knives.

I keep planning to buy a PM2 but have a 943.

Love it, recently got a deep carry clip for it. Love it even more.

Lightweight, a lot of blade in good steel and the axis is a great lock.

Damned near perfect EDC.

The 940-1 is also on my list and It'll probably happen before the PM2

I own both and consider them essential in my collection meaning if I have to start selling knives for funds...These stay regardless.

Many details are already mentioned but to add, I EDC a Glock 19 or similar sized pistol and the 943, is probably the best knife overall I found to compliment the "big" handgun" (especially in shorts during the summer). Thin, narrow, light, 3.5 inches, strong, high end steel... It all checks off. Standard folders not mentioning beefy ones arent so great when concealing a Glock 19.
