Benchmade 943 vs Ritter Griptilian (RSK Mk1)

i just got a fixed grip, 154cm.

i know it's still new to me, but i can tell you it's going to be my edc for a while. even though it's fixed blade, it's very easy to conceal...if you devote your left front pocket to it. the sheath goes through my belt and tucks into my left front pocket. comfortable and invisible.

i LOVE the blade shape. it's like a mini bowie. and the ergo is perfect. i couldn't ask for more.

If you want to EDC, the mini ritter would probably be better. Some people have really big hands though so they don't like it as much. I have a mini ritter - it is a superb edc. I want a 940 though!

I bought myself an RSK Mk1 as an early Christmas gift to myself last year, and I'm almost sorry to say that it replaced my Spyderco Military as my EDC of choice. It's just so comfortable and well-designed. It replaces the Military from time to time because I prefer to the strength of the Axis lock to the linerlock (although the Military's locks up like a bank vault) by default of design. I'm a Spyderco diehard, so this replacement is saying something.

Ritter in my right front pocket, CPM D2 Military in my waistband. :)

I have a min grip and a 940 and love them both but I carry the mini grip more because it is such a nice knife. I had a full size grip but traded it off because it was too big in the pocket. I have large hands but the mini works fine. When I use a knife most of the time I put my index finger on the back of the blade so there is room on the handle with just my three fingers. Good luck.

I vote for the grip, but I'd go for the 550HG or 555HG models over the Ritter models. Benchmade's S30V is REALLY difficult to sharpen, and the examples I've owned/seen in knife shops of the 94X series of BMs are ground tooo thick in my opinion...the thick stock + shallow flat grind is not a winner in my book.. though otherwise, the design is REALLY NICE... love love love the design of the 94X... I'd be SUPER PSYCHED to see on e with a nice hollow grind. The Ritter does have a "Full" flat grind, so the grind is not an issue, but the S30V is more trouble than it's worth.

I HIGHLY recommend you do yourself a favor and try out the 550HG. You'll spend half the amount for the same knife with (IMO) more practical EDC steel. All things considered, 154cm is definitely my favorite steel. I recently sold my 550HG, and I'll kick myself until its replaced. The Griptilian really is one of the best knives ever made... When you weigh what you get... The ONLY thing that the Ritter offers that really is "more valuable" is the full flat grind... If you want S30V, get a Spyderco Native for $45. ...In the end it makes WAY more sense to avoid the Ritters unless you buy into a gimmick and spend twice as much for the same knife..(Ritter vs. 550HG).

943 S30V w/lanyard plate

hey, where's you get that lanyard plate? that looks like exacly what i need :)

back on topic:

Ritter Grip is a Grrrrrreat knife!! However, it is far from ideal for EDC--it's bulky and the blade shape is not what you probably want for more "civilized" tasks.

But the 952 is a fantastic outdoors knife--I've got a Ritter for backpacking and Benchmade 930 for EDC.
