I like the looks of this knife with the black and orange handles and reverse tanto blade. Would this make a good edc ? I am new to Benchmade and am a relative beginner to sharpening is the S30V blade fairly easy to sharpen with the proper stones ? or should I be looking at a different steel ? I am not real hard on knives but the reverse tanto looks to be pretty rugged. the Cutlery Shoppe has these for $162.50, seems like a good deal ?

Blade is very nice and useful, it's combination of slicer and tactical blade. High grind but strong tip. Handle is very specific, some people may not like it. I did some work on my Rift to make it comfortable for me.

S30V isn't hard to reprofile if you have diamond stones.

That looks good, I was wandering if the bump out on the bottom would fit my hand, there is no one local that has this model to try.

Make cartoon handle in scale 1:1. I did that with some ZT's, just scale picture like that to actual size of the handle, check length. Handle is 116 mm long, measured at the height of the pivot screw.

And make sketch on paper applied to the computer screen, rest you know.

Edit:

Ok, on my screen 1152x864, it's real size of the 950.

Hey Bama!!!
I have the one you're looking at and I can tell you the knife is simply fantastic! I love the Rift, but not the stock scales. Saw the LE at CS and fell in love!
Got mine 2 days after I ordered it and it was just about perfect out of the box!
Amazingly even and stupid sharp edge, super smooooooth action that locks up TIGHT!!! Mine is a free faller!
Very comfortable in pocket and hand! The first thing that went through my mind, when taking it out of the box for the first time, was how SOLID it felt!
I could go on and on.......if you like the looks of it, grab one!!

As with the larger similar Contego model, you will need to file off the sharp edges on the handles of these, other than that bullshit, they are very nice knives

The Rift has a bit thin blade for such a massive knife, feels weird but cuts like a laser..... mine is in 154cm... did they change that? I do not particularly like s30v.... kinda hard to sharpen for some reason, like my D2 knives

I have heard a few guys say the same thing about the sharp edges on the scales, but I haven't found it necessary.
Feels good in my hand.
I'd have to agree on the way it cuts! Literally slices like a pissed off demon!
I have found keeping s30v very sharp is easier if you don't let it get butter knife dull. I just touch them up after I use it...... very fine stone and a quick strop does it.

Thanks HF!! It really is an outstanding knife brother!!
Also, dealing with Jeff at Cutlery Shoppe is great!! Absolute gentleman that makes sure you are completely satisfied!!

Really like my Rift, my hand is one that the handle does fit. OP, I find S30V isn't really anymore difficult to sharpen than the 154CM of the standard Rift.
If the size and weight is about right for your idea of EDC then go for it.
Myself I find the Rift carries easily, its certainly a rugged user, and the Axis lock is just awesome to use.

You summed it up rather nicely CP!!
I have mine on me now and just squeezed the snot out of it in 4 different grips......no issues at all!
I kinda look at the blade like a larger 940 blade and I like that blade profile quite a bit!!!
This Rift is one of those knives I can go on & on about and can recommend with no hesitation. Super solid & tough knife that is sexy as hell!

I agree about the grip Joe, although it may look like it has pointy bits along the scale edges I find it quite comfortable to wield. I use it as a work knife, alternating with a Manix XL and a 0562.

I also agree that Jeff is top notch to deal with, I have many folders from him over the past 5 years or so.
I have eyed up his exclusive Rift since it came out (OP, the price on it is good) but I haven't got one as I already have a standard Rift and the S30V is not a big enough step up from the 154CM to entice me.
But I may cave when I see he only has a few left.

I had been wistfully thinking of getting one of Jeff's exclusive Rifts, pulling it apart, skeletonizing the liners and getting a blade regrind, and maybe some custom scales. Life and it's associated costs has so far prevented me pursuing that idea however...
