Benchmade AFCK or Spyderco Military

Both are great knives and I'm sure no matter which one you'll pick, it will serve you well.
I'd go for the Military, because it's bigger and lighter (and I'm right handed, so the linerlock has no drawbacks for me).

There's a great review on these two knives side by side somewhere on here.
The guy uses them both really hard and shares his experience with pic's and everything. Do a search and you'll find it. As far as discontinuing the AFCK.. normally I'd think that was a crazy rumor but after they discontinued the TSEK I'll believe anything!

It's on Benchmades webpage...so it is hardly a rumor anymore.

Well I just thought I would let everyone know I decided to got with the AFCK. The deciding factor was really that it was discontinued. I appreciate everyone's input. Anyone know what Benchmade might be replacing it with???

i was faced with the same dilema just yesterday and after hearing that the AFCK was discontinued i bought it on the spot.:p

Get the AFCK between those two. Having said that the Benchmade 710HS in M2 steel is a far more practical/useful design than either. Though I would personally get myself either a Chinook II or a Manix, Axis beats liners any day of the week, but I'll take a well made lockback over anything but a fixed blade.

i would disagree with that myself, the 710 cant do a thing the 806/800 cant. not that the 710 is bad (i have 1) but its not anything head/shoulders above the 806/800 by any means. its all pretty subjective when ya start saying knife 'A' is a lot better than knife 'B', in this case imho (and its all just that, opinion) i think they are both pretty good designs, due to the grip design i would say the 806/800 is better for SD than the 710, but the 710 would be fine in that role also. for 1 reason/another the 710 has never really been a fav of mine strictly for aesthetic reasons, nothing bad about it....i do like the AFCK line, i have too many of them lol, back in the day newgraham had AFCK mod 800S for $59 IIRC a lot of knife for the $$ imho.

Hmm, I would side with a 710 over a 806 aswell.
Not that this is the question in this thread at all..

I was unaware the 806 had a slight recurve to it like the 710, as this makes it a decent slasher, skinner if you may, and the thumbstudes, cinches it for me.

I cant imqagine using that hole when its minus 40-50 outside like i can the studs with my gloves fingertips.

If i cant feel the hole, or utilize it in the extremes of weather and surroundings, then it imho has nothing on my 710.

I too think the 806 is a better SD knife, but the 710HS is a better utility knife. More of a recurve on the blade, allows you to get your hands closer to the blade for fine control, and M2 steel which is a bet better than D2. Both are good knives and could both be used for utility or SD, I have both and prefer the 710.

I have them both. The AFCK is a much better fighter, the Military is a much better all around utility and food knife. And not such a good fighter, because there's nothing to keep your hand from slipping up on the blade if you stab and hit something hard. But the wide flat ground blade of the Military is much better for all those many uses a general camp/use knife is for - rope, wood, food prep including meat, fish and veggie cutting. The AFCK is the top fighter in its weight and length class... but that's the best its for, I think, due to blade geometry.

I have a BM806D2. It spends most of it's time in the drawer. I prefer the BM710 or the BM Doug Ritter Grip over it. The BM806 is a great knife though. Probably one of the most solid folders I own. I have a Spyderco Starmate which has some similarities to the Military. It's a nice knife, but just doesn't seem to be in the same legue as far as feeling as solid, smooth, and locking as securly with the partial liner lock or whatevery they call it. :)

I just purchased an AFCK, I have had a Military for years. Two very different knives...AFCK (axis) has the "feel" of a more robust folder (heavy, duel liners, axis), but much heavier and thicker. The Military is so thin and light you don't even notice it clipped in your pocket. If I were depending on pure "solid"..AFCK, to carry everyday and not notice it til ya need it..Military. Steel is great in both, so is craftsmanship. My 0.02

I prefer the 806D2 over almost anything else. I carried a Military for awhile, but it just didn't have the solid "feel" that the AFCK does. The AFCK in one form or another has been a mainstay in my EDC rotation, its really sucks that they are killing it. IMO it's a solid platform, especially with the AXIS lock and such. At times I carry the 806 as a purely defensive tool, and I prefer it's handle shape and general ergonomics over the Military. I would like to see the Military with a different locking mechanism, the one I had never failed, but the liner just seemed a tad too thin for my tastes.

Didn't we have this exact same thread (806 vs Military) just a couple weeks ago?
