I love this knife. I just got one on ebay but the guy didn't really describe the condition and I payed for it.

I'm looking for another now!

...At some point in later years (I don;t know when - someone chime in), the quality of the Japanese ATS-34 began to falter, and most knifemakers then switched back to U.S. made 154CM...

Actually, the ATS-34 was always a first rate steel that was used because at the time the 154CM was problematic. When the purity and quality of 154CM came up to snuff, US manufacturers started using it instead of ATS-34.

I have one that's hard chromed. It was the first folder hard chromed by a friend of mine. He now does hard chroming for Emerson. Great knife.

I got one for a hiking buddy and one night he came home late/tired and decided to do a little knife shadow boxing in front of the bathroom mirror. The surgeon on duty at the emergency room thought the wound was bad enough to wake up a hand surgeon. Thankfully, four hours later his hand function was restored. I think the designer succeeded in making an effective fighting folder.

Thanks for all the info guys, I have looked at this knife time and time again and it never "did it" for me. However I have never held one, just the look never appealed. I guess with all the praise and admiration of this knife I should at least hold the thing and give it a try.

ATS-34 is also more costly, because it's imported.

Hello,

here are two pictures of my good old AFCK BM800 M2HS Plain edge.
I bought it in Paris in 2001 and I have removed the black BT2 on the blade and since it has developed a very nice patina and no pit of rust ever.
It's light and M2 cut like crazy.
Grand Dad's blade with modern technology.
