Benchmade apparition

Ive had the apparition for about six months and love it.Theres a good solid weighty feeling to it in your hand. Its well put together without any gaps.Only problem with it is that when you first get it engaging the assisted opening is a bit tough,to the point where your thumb will be sore for quite a few days.Loosening the pivot screw does not seem to help.I've read in other forums peaple having similar problems. But what i have found to work is just sitting down and working the knife blade up and down without fully closing it.After a day of playing with it like this it now works like butter ,opening smoothly and no longer hurting my thumb. This is one of my favorite folders now.Hope this helps.Bobby

Cheers Bobby, you do know it's your fault I'm now going to have to spend this money don't you?

But what the hell it's only cash!!!

I bought one for my g/f and she loves the thing. She likes the feel and the heft but its true about tha AO that it takes a bit to break in but once it breaks in its a pretty sweet little knife.

yeah they are some type of plastic, to use real kudu horn would be too expensive.

Agree with all the other comments about the action when it's new, but mine too is smooth as silk now that it's good and broke in. My blade came as sharp out of the box as any knife I've ever bought. The 154CM hasn't held up quite as well as another knife I bought around the same time with VG-10 steel, but I think that would be predictable. About 20 strokes on each side of the blade with the crock sticks dresses the edge right back up to shaving-sharp. I can't imagine needing to actually clamp the ol' girl up and sharpen 'er with the diamond hones, unless the blade got nicked or folded because of me using it for something other than the light duty I normally use it for.

Some folks are really turned off by the synthetic scale material, but it's fine with me. I've thought that if I ever take the plunge I've threatened to, and start trying my hand at customizing, the Apparition's scales would probably be my first ummm...victim...er...uh...experiment, but I'd sho' 'nuff save the old scales and it wouldn't break my heart to have to put them back on if I screwed something up with the new material.

I think it's a great knife. I have come to really like Assisted Openers, and of the 8 or so I have at the moment, it's in the top two. Some days it's my favorite one, and some days it comes in second to my Kershaw Spec Bump. It's always either in my pocket or in my car though. She's a keeper!

I'm thinking about buying the one with OD Micarta scales. Anyone own one..comments on how it feels? Thanks.

I was going to get one , but I opted for a the new hk snody with g10 handle and bt2 coated combo revcure. I wish the apparation was axis and used some other material as the handle. Alothough, I am tempted by the good looks.

I ended up selling mine. The kudo style scales were putting a lot of wear
and tear on my wrangler jeans pants pockets.Other than that the knife
was very smooth.Didn't have a problem breaking it in.I used to put my
thumbnail under the thumb stud to release it.I like that fact that towards
the tip the blade was enlarged on the spine enhancing the tip strength.
Noticed my knife dealer has a limited edition model with SMOOTH scales
that I am thinking very seriously about.Don't know what the material
is though but the price is about $70 higher.Watch out when you break
it in, a couple of times the knife literally jumped out of my hand!!

My experience is pretty much the same. I didn't care for it at first because the scales seemed too slippery and as was described by Grasshoppers, it did literally seem to jump out of my hand. I also love the blade shape and agree that it is thin and very sharp. I was originally going to sell it but it survived a week on eBay. Here's the deal, I actually got attached to it playing around with it. The action is smooth and fast and the size is perfect if you want to edc it. I really like it and decided to keep it. Either the scales are not a slick or I'm getting used to them. If you get it, I think that you will like it as well.
