Benchmade axis lock strength test

I'd love to see that same exact machine do competitors knives. I have a feeling that the ti frame lock on my Southard would give before the axis.

I have thought the Axis lock was the neatest lock ever for years. It is great to know that it may be the strongest too. By the way, seeing a nice knife broken bummed me out too, but breaking a knife beats the pants out of getting sued for product failure!

In a test like this liner/frame locks tend to fail where they lock the blade open essentially making the knife a fixed blade, not always the case though. The following is quoted from the Benchmade forum where the same test video was posted by Benchmade in reference to a liner lock.

"The Stryker failure was interesting. The lock liner "buckled" and completely blocked the blade; effectively turning the knife into a fixed blade. The blade didn't collapse (which could cause injury if in the hand). We then dissassembled the knife and simply replaced the lock liner. The knife was back to NIB condition!

So although the Stryker's lock isn't nearly as strong as the 300SN; when the liner buckles, the knife is still usable and completely repairable."
