What do u guys think? I've heard a lot about the axis lock but not that much about the pinnacle. Which do think is better? I personally like the pinnacle better. I haven't bought one yet because im looking for a smaller size. Is benchmade coming out with a smaller pinnacle?

The reason I think the axis lock is better than the pinnacle is because it is TOTALLY ambidextrous, it can be opened AND closed just as easily with either hand. No I don't think that BM is coming out with a mini Pinnacle, although many people would prob. like to get 'em.

The Pinnacle is just as much of a tour de force as the Axis is. Both really push the state-of-the-art in production locking styles, and push Benchmade's production values as well.

Both have excellent ergonomics, though the Axis has better comfort for prolonged use (better than any folder I've *ever* tested).

If you like the Pinnacle better though, definitely go for it. It's an incredibly good knife. The only reason you don't hear much about it is because the Axis came out at the same time, and the axis is a completely new locking type.

The Axis lock is ambidextrous as stompy pointed out, something I keep forgetting. It will also be available in a smaller size.

Johnny,

I like both of these Benchmade's. But if I could only have one of these, I would go for the Pinnacle! Why? I like the integral style lock and I love titanium handles.

They are both very nice knives, indeed! Benchmade's Finest ...

A guy over on the Tactics List (an e-mail list, not part of either forum), who took a Chris Reeve knife to a knife tactics course, had trouble with the knife accidentally unlocking during vigorous training moves. While he was gripping the knife very tightly. He said Reeve took it back with no problem, although he did mention that he had never heard of the problem. The guy described the knife, with the lock integral with the handle scale. Sounded just like a Sebenza. He said he loved the knife, but after that course, he bought an AFCK. FWIW, FYI, YMMV, and all that.

Yes Outlaw, I've heard of that same thing happening here in may area at a tac. seminar. They were suppose to be using fake knives and this one dude was so proud of his Sebenza, he was playin around and it folded on him, due to the handle releaseing the blade rather than a liner..But I don't think its designed for Tactical use, but what if it folded under hard cutting chores? Makes you wonder??? The AXIS IS AWESOME!! WOrks good for daily carry chores too!! I like it alot...

According to a recent post on their forum, BM has no plans for a smaller Pinnacle. As far as I can tell, they are abandoning the integral lock in favor of the axis on their new models.

The pinnacles that I have seen have not had a solid fit, and I have read many posts on the BM forum from folks that sent theirs into BM for work.

Maybe that integral lock is a little tougher to make than they thought?
