Benchmade axis TSEK and AFCK comparison (pic)

Hmmmmm..... I probably won't even try. Taking another look at the blade, I'm thinking that it does have some difference from the 551. Maybe Dennis can confirm... it looks like the swedge goes away before the tip, so that the tip is thicker. Almost reinforced, somewhat like the tip of the Nimravus. Unlike the 551, where the swedge goes all the way to the tip, making it a finer tip. Is that correct, Dennis? Anyway, since I already have the a-AFCK on the way, with the oval hole, and already have the 551, I'll probably just pass. Unless, like I implied earlier, I just fall headlong into love with the handle design (which I doubt).

But yeah, I'd definitely be clamping the blade down hard before trying to drill it. And figuring on a cobalt drill bit, too.

Rockspyder is correct. The swedge does go away before the tip.

Hello Guys,

Are you sure the new 805 has a 440C blade? So far I have found only two internet ads for the 805 TSEK. One doesn't say what kind of steel is used, and the other says the steel is GIN-1. Maybe it is a misprint - I don't know.

I've come to believe that 440C is the starting point for a good stainless steel. If GIN-1 is not as good as 440C, I don't think I want anything made from it.

Thanks, Shootist16,

There is one retailer currently listing GIN-1 as the blade steel for the 805 TSEK. Maybe I should send him a message about it.

GIN 1 was used on the old 803 TSEK.

Benchmade is using 440C in all knives that used to use GIN 1.

I really like Benchmades 440C. Seems to hold an edge almost as long as ATS-34 but is easier to sharpen and more rust resistant.
