Benchmade Battle

My buddy has the Presidio Fixed blade and it is one Heavy-Duty knife for sure. The blade is very thick and I thought the knife had very good balance. The handles are aluminum.

Ive never handled the Becker, but alot of people on the forums speak very highly of the lower priced models. Good bang for the buck, they say. The Becker Extreme though, costs $100 more than the Presido, so I think the better value might be the Presidio.

Glenn, I'll just say that over the years I've had better luck, on average, with Benchmade's 154Cm (and before that, with their ATS-34) than with their specialty steels. I've had good blades from BM in every steel they make, but -

- the only BMs I've had to send back because the heat treat was off were M2 and D2

- my numerous ATS-34 and 154CM BMs have performed very well for me.

I always figured that BM really had the treatment of their most commonly used steels down to a fine science.

That said, I've had nothing but good service from my BM S30V either.

I'd guess that if you want stainless, the 440C blades are actually somewhat more chip resistant than either 154CM or S30V. Of course those are all much more prone to chipping than a simple carbon steel like the Ontarios.
