Does anyone here have a benchmade big summit lake?

Something about that knife is catching my eye lately. I am hoping someone has some pics and would share their thoughts.

Thanks

Guess not.

No flipper, no thumbstud, no fancy lock, no love :grumpy::thumbdn:

I have one but I've never carried it. The nail nick kills it for me. If it had a thumb stud, I would probably like it, even though I'm not too fond of lockbacks. If you're cool with the nail nick then I would imagine you would like the knife though. It's easy to open, has good blade retention when closed, and a solid lockup when open. It's size falls right in between a 940 and 710.

Nice pics! Thanks for the reply. I ordered one today on a whim. Its been grabbing my attention since they were released. I have been looking for a simple knife that is a bit old school and gentlemanly for when the ever popular tactical folder is not as appropriate. I like old school with modern materials, so this joker is right up my alley. It looks like enough blade sticks out to allow opening without needing to use the nail nick.

That's the same reason I bought it. I wanted a traditional style knife with some modern touches. I can open the Big Lake one handed by using my middle finger and thumb to get it started out and then wrist flick it the rest of the way. I haven't played with it much, but if I practiced I guess I could get used to it. I just have too many other knives that I enjoy using for the time being.

Love that Green handled Benchmade. Hope it is still being made. Blade style is awesome!!

Nice pictorial.

I've got one of each of the Bone Collector models that never get carried. I really like the Benchmade D2 over s30v but I just never warmed up to them. They are some good looking blades though.

That green handled Benchmade is the black blade version of the classic 940, and it's still available in multiple configurations if you're looking for one (including the awesome 940-1 CF version).

So I have been looking for a folder with an old school flair but made with high end, modern materials. Somethin for when I want a more gentlemanly not tactical looking blade. A while ago the Benchmade Big Summit Lake caught my eye. I have been looking at them since they came out a few years ago, but never bought one until last week. I did replace the standard benchmade arrow clip with a shorty from Southern Grind. It has an S30V blade, steel skeletonized liners and Dymondwood handle scales. Locks up like an abrams tank hatch. It sharp (not Guy sharp but close) and is very comfortable in hand. The blade reminds me a little of one of those Canadian bird and trout blades. Its pretty big too, which I like. 3.77 inch blade and over 8 inches open. If someone was looking for a folding bushcrafter, this could fit the bill for sure! The only thing I dont like is that its blade doesnt ride centered up when closed, which surprises me with a lockback and a benchmade!. Which bugs me but doesnt affect performance of the knife. When open the blade and spine are perfectly straight. I want to buy a second one to see if my example is a fluke. Overall I really like it. At $123.00. I think its worth it.
