Benchmade bugout or Spyderco Delica 4

I had both. They are virtually the same size and the Bugout is lighter and has a tad more blade.

I prefer the axis lock over a Spyderco lock back, but to me, the Delica felt a little better in hand. The Bugout feels a bit over priced.

Overall, both are excellent knives and you can't go wrong with either one. Personally, I kept my Delica and sold the Bugout. This is just a guess, but as it's fairly common to see the Bugout for sale in exhange, so I'm not alone in my thoughts on the Bugout.

Oh, and there is a thread on the Bechmade sub forum regarding the Bugout and it's ability to be a Delica killer.

It's a good read.

Benchmade s30v (nowadays) is fairly good. A Delica in VG-10 is a sufficient EDC for many people and for good reason. However they also offer a ZDP-189 version too. Check out some reviews on Youtube and decide what you like. Get both, sorry that's my opinion lol. Or all three lol

Thanks for your responses, I would usually bite the bullet and buy both. I’ve had delicas before both vg-10 and zdp. I read the post in the mentioned bm thread, and still wanted to continue one here where it want be bias as far as that being a bm forum

I don't usually like throwing in other options if I can avoid it. So between the two the bugout, because the Axis lock is closer to what I like lock-wise. I have no interest in lockbacks personally. If I was in the market for a knife of that size, I would go for a 0450CF, it's like, it's compact and it has a flipper frame lock, the black black black look isn't everybodies cup of tea, but you could easily get the blade blasted and sharpend.

The ZDP 189 Delica would be my choice. They're both great knives though. You can't make a wrong choice between the two.

Historically I would have recommended any Spyderco over any benchmade at the same price point since Spyderco has historically been a better buy (in my opinion) and benchmade has had trouble with quality control from my experience.

Lately, benchmade has stepped up their game in the QC department and Spyderco has stepped up their pricing. I still like the Delica, but I handled a bugout the other day and aside from the handles feeling a bit cheaper I think I liked it better. But it’s a pretty close match to me. Now if you were asking about the vtoku2 sprint Delica, well that one would get my vote.

My thought? If it was me I'd get a few Ka-Bar Dozier in a few different color rather than any of those two, then invite a friend for a drink with the leftover change.
If I absolutely had to choose between those two I'd probably get the BM because I slightly favor the Axiss over the lockback, but then again the Delica has more color and steel choices and I don't really care for the blue on the Bugout, so I probably endup heads or tailing the matter.

delica because of price. ignoring price, it's a little closer. i prefer the s30v, i like the delicas handle, i like the bugout blade shape, but i hate how uneven benchmade grinds come out. i may still lean towards the delica.

*i've handled the bugout, owned a delica, neither have a place in my rotation. they actually got kicked out of my pocket by a kizer vanguard vigor, which is the budget knife in my rotation

I have both and I agree it's a tough decision, but I would pick the Bugout, simply because how awesome the axis lock is and the pocket clip is great!

I've got both and I would pick the Bugout. It really surprised me. Just better handling all around for me.

Does the Bugout have full length steel liners? I haven't had the privilege of handling one yet.

Bugout - to me the only thing that even puts the Delica in play is that the scales on the Bugout feel a little cheap. But it's not like the Delica is wearing G10 or micarta, either.

As other poster said, I don't like to throw in other options you didn't ask about, so I would offer a generic "check out the other options in that size and price range".

I think the Bugout is a great little knife that is great if not a little thin but with good steel and a great lock; I think the Delica is a great little knife with a great opening mechanism and a good handle size and thickness with a simpler steel that is still good.

You can't go wrong, but I think I'd start with the Delica and go from there; the Spydie-hole is so darn useful it's hard to give it up for a better lock like the AXIS.

You won't go wrong with either, but I myself have kept the Bugout.

I like the deep carry clip, the S30V that Benchmade does, and the awesome customer service.

I love the blade size and shape, the axis lock and the fact that it weighs in at 3/4 ounce lighter than the Delica.\

A clear cut case of "Get Both" if I ever saw one, though. :D
