Benchmade Bushcrafter and bark river gunny hunter

Amen, that handle is the most comfortable for hard use.
Its a cramp free handle for extended use.
For fondling, and staring at its seems awkward.
But during use carving feathers its great.

So whatcha looking for Bobby?
Something with a more aggressive geometry for biting the wood?
Better wear resistance? Toughness? Ease of Sharpening?

Here's some pics of the handle profiles and stock thickness on some Bark River vs Benchmade.

Well honestly I wasn't looking for anything until I was offered the gunny in trade, which got me to looking and now wanting lol. I've been wanting to try out 3v thou since hearing the great reviews..just been on the fence for which one for awhile... I've yet to have my 162 go dull beyond a working edge on me thru use, but seeing as I have sharpening ocd, I'd like something that holds that fine razor edge longer.

Since reprofiling the 162 to 15° per side side with a 18° micro bevel and a slight convex it has allot more bite to it. It honestly bites almost as well a mora, but will still make super fine curls without over biting when I want it to. I guess now thou I don't need it, I just want to try out a convex grind and a bark river since I don't have any. From the looks in your pix the lt is the one I'm deff gonna try...wish the pre orders were still available to make it exactly how I want.

None of the combinations you posted are off the wall and would likely be in stock at KSF or with us when they are finished. If one did come in with the ramp, it can be removed at no extra cost to you. Just an FYI for you if you don't find one before the next run is available

I'd go with an Elmax Gunny. I too have OCD and I have yet to actually sharpen my Gunny from use!
It still pops hairs!

Its never just the steel, it seems the Gunny has a great high performance geometry from the box.

It not perfect however, I was making a knife handle from a piece of birch and powered through a quarter sized knot to test the cutting ability and toughness.
I used a chest lever cut and this knife just powered though it.
I was impressed.

Upon very close inspection, I noticed a few micro chips near the belly about the size of the head of a needle.

These three small chips haven't effected the cutting performance but when the knife does start to drop off in sharpness I'm sure it will be more time consuming to sharpen out chips with such a wear resistant steel.

Elmax is tough stuff for what it is but nothing is perfect.

I don't have any first hand info to share about 3v.

I've used A2 which seem to take an extremely high level of sharpness quickly but then fades away with use.
But it sharpens so well that it's a great trade off.

I've looked at a few elmax blades but from what I gathered on it, it has to be done just right or like you experienced it'll get chippy on harder tasks.

I've used a2 and it does sharpen easily, but I agree it tends to die out just as easy, thou stropping it's pretty effective on it..for a carbon steel I prefer 1095.

I might eventually get a gunny depending how well I like the lt. Seems like it'd be a good edc blade, thou it'd have to really impress me to shake the bk16 off my belt lol.

Do you have any idea when they'll be in stock again?

I'm sorry I do not know for sure but based on where they sit currently on the production schedule it will likely be in 4-6 weeks. If it were up to us they'd be the next thing made because they sell well for us.

Sweet, look forward to it...I like the option of the black sheath on your site as well hopefully they'll be in stock to lol

Curious have you handled more than one Bushcrafter? I've recently sharpened a couple for other people and have noticed the grinds are all over the place on em....some are really thin at the edge and a 40° inclusive edge is very small....then on another a 30° inclusive edge bevel is only slightly larger than the 40° edge, but the last 2 have been rather thick compared to the others... A 40° inclusive edge on one is larger than the 30° inclusive edge..

I haven't noticed, but again I haven't been sharpening a bunch of the same knife.
