This is an interesting topic, and I can only add on what has been said. I do not own a grip, but have handled them quite a bit. For me, the design just didn't make it for me over a spyderco endura. However, our own opinions are what matter to us, and the grip is a great knife. (love the scales, deep carry clip and stonewash uxo2, would have paid twice for that!).
But I must say, it is a benchmade that got me into knives. I was working at a cigar shop for a long time and we sold magazines; one day I dusted a knife magazine and saw the then new BM 741 onslaught. I've carried a sswiss army or a buck my wohole life, but that just blew me away. I paid more than I ever had for a knife, and happily. That design really does it for me. I don't carry it much, as it is very large, but to me, there is something about it. I have also lusted after a 740 osborne and a bedlam.
I know, this is more information than needed, but I would add to what others have said; it is a personal choice. a knife can look great on paper and in the flesh but if you find yourself not carrying it and not really digging it, pass it on. Sometimes you need to carry and use a knife before you find out if it is right for you. If you do decide to pass it on, I wouldn't hold it against Benchmade, I prefer their g 10 ( I have a 710 and the 741) but like frn as well. As an avid spyderco fan, I would suggest checking out some of their blades. Delica or endura are great value, I you don't want frn, a caly 3 or 3.5, a safe to your taste, a gayle bradley.... I'd handle as many as possible and figure out what really matters to get a knife into your pocket. For me, I find myself grabbing something around 3 inches, a deep carry clip, and a ffg blade.
Good luck with whatever you choose, a deep carry clip might help if BM will just send it, but indeed sometimes it just doesn't feel right. Like having a good bass player just missing the pocket even though he has a great drummer.. it is all how it feel to you. Best wishes
