Hey guys. I am looking for a general consensus on this blade. The only thing that is making me consider it less, is that I have heard a couple of people state that the jimping on the liners is pretty sharp. Anyone else had this problem? A few pictures never hurt either haha.

The overall feel on the G-10 is that this is a folder made for LEO or Military hence a glove is preferable.
However you may sand it down as you wish.

Overall i truly love this folder and i chose this over Gayle Bradley simply because of the extra coating for M4 steel.
The tactical black is just sexy and the Osborne reverse Tanto tip made it even harder to say no.

I can't say enough about this folder. It's easily one of my favorite blades.

I have the 810 and 950...kissing cousins. Both are great. The CPM M4 on the Contego is outstanding. Jimping is a bit aggressive, but as stated above, the G10 can be sanded.

The biggest knock I have on the 810 is it is big and heavy. If your type of job/application requires or permits carrying a robust knife, then the 810 is a great pick! If you work in an office or similar environment, the 810 is probably a bit too much knife to be wielding.

I was always interested in one, but then I was able to hold one at a store. The jimping on it is so severe and rough. It's all over the knife and it's very sharp. I've never experienced jimping like this.

I have two and I like them. They do have a lot of jimping, but I don't work in an office either. It doesn't bother me at all.

How much more severe would you say, versus the Manix?

I dont think the jimping is that bad, but I do construction work for a living and I HATE wearing gloves at work, so my hands are a little rough :) I dont think the jimping is anything to shoot down such a great knife :D If you want to check her out...Ill do a temporary trade with ya :)

Steel130,there is a nice writeup and comparison of the Contego vs the Rift on knife tests and reviews forum by Powernoodle. He has posted some nice pictures as well.Do check that out.Other than the rough edges which can be sanded out if needed, the Contego is a very fine folder.Hope this helps.

I really like my 810 and carry it often, I don't find it overly rough at all or too "jimped" but I guess it depends on one's hands. Great blade shape, and design.

I did a little Contego vs. Rift thingy here.

Nice writeup. The thing that appeals to me moreso with the 810 vs the 950 is the M4 steel :D. And I probably won't be able to snag one of the LE 950's that was in M4 for a decent price. So I guess it's a toss up between 810 or the M390 710 :D.

The contego is a beast. I like it so well I've actually sold all of my other folders. It's a heavy duty knife that is really slim and easy to pocket compared to other things in the 4 inch range like the ZT 560.

The m390 710 is great too. It's a much better slicer, lighter and classier looking. However I like the extra heft and hand comfort of the 810. It's basically a fixed blade in terms of the work you can do with it.

2012-11-04_12-14-29_48.jpg2012-11-04_12-14-45_974.jpg I personally really like this , it has since replaced my zermeno as an edc. Now onto the jimping factor! I certainly dont think its excessive or overly sharp. Maybe I dont have soft little hands but it really doesnt bug me in the slightest. Also for the price idk if you can find a better knife. Your mileage may vary, but if you go through knifeworks you can get it at wholesale price just about. I re-beveled mine to a °40 inclusive, ive since used it for doing a fair amount of whittling and its held a keen, hair shaving edge. The HT they've used on the M4 for the 810 is far superior to the M4 on the LFTI. All in all I would have to recommend it. Also to touch on the weight factor and people saying its a heavy knife. It really isn't much heavier than the 950, the skeletonized liners really help to keep the weight factor down. This is a great knife.

I got one shortly after it came out, and it has seen a lot of carry time since. I don't know if there are different versions, but while there is a lot of jimping and texturing, I don find it to be at all sharp or uncomfortable. I don't have particularly rough hands either. It is easily one of my favorite knives, can't say enough good about it.

Thanks everyone. It's looking like I may have to flip a coin to decide on the 810 or 710 haha. Both are very appealing.

I had one for a few months and never really warmed up to it. I ended up selling it to a friend. Aside from the jimping feeling very sharp, the ergos just didn't feel right to my hand.
I do think that this knife would be a great knife while wearing gloves, but I almost never wear gloves. If the ergos had fit me, then i would have easily kept it because all other aspects of the knife were very nice.

I love mine it's is one of my favorites !! That's saying a lot for me . I work outside do my hands are rough so I don't even notice the jimping problem. I do notice the smooth as glass deployment , the m4 , the reverse tanto, and excellent ergos.
