Benchmade Delta Raider

I think I'm going to send Benchmade an e-mail asking them if they will reissue this knife. I now I'm probably wasting my time...

Probably. :)

But on the bright side, Neil Blackwood just announced his involvement with Benchmade, so maybe we'll see some kick-ass fixed blade designs again sometime in the near future.

SOunds good to me! :D Come to think of it, the Delta Raider was Benchmade's only full size fixed blade.

the handle looks like something from a cheap fillet knife.

You would be surprised how grippy that handle is. Even wet I think that you'd have an excellent grip on it. It's not the most expensive handle out there by any means, but it wasn't meant to be either. It's very utilitarian, which is what it was designed for.

The blade and the grind are beautiful. would just like it better with a sort of rustic type handle, or the opposite, say with carbon-fiber.

If you need to watch your money you can get good value from one of the Cold Steel tactical field knives:

For higher blade toughness pick one with a Carbon-V blade rather than stainless. If you are going to work in a salt water environment pick a stainless blade or your edge will keep corroding away.

You might also see what kind of deal you could get on an Al Mar SERE Operator, SOG Bowie, or Boker Orca.

Actually, Benchmade made a kukri called the Bushmaster, also. I had one. It was kind of cheap (but really cool when I was 15).

I got my Delta Raider in 1989, and it still holds a decent edge. Beautiful blade shape, and nice balance.
