Benchmade DLC Project

Package arrived!!! And honestly, I'm overwhelmed with the final result. RobbJack/Crystallume went above and beyond with the "Black Widow DLC" coated finish.. Purely amazing! I wasn't expecting to still see the butterfly logo and script, however, you can still see it in the right light! I highly recommend RobbJack/Crystallume for your next DLC project!

This is pretty much how I feel right now internally lol :D (You know you're a knife nerd when DLC excites you lol)

The work of an artist. Amazing details. What I can't wait to see are the assembled results!

Thanks! Two of my 53X CF scale sets are reassembled.. I'm holding off on blade assembly until I have a decent amount of time to re-sharpen all of them (8 blades).. I have a new Lansky strop/diamond hones coming in a few days as well. Everything will be done by next week if time permits!

Here's how the CF 531's will look:

Interesting. It's more subtle than I expected -- not nearly as dark. I'm liking this idea more and more, especially for the pocket clips!

The pics are a little deceiving because of the weird angles and glare from the window.. The best picture I took during the day that highlights the true darkness of the DLC is this one below (the two 810 blades on the far left). I took the picture at a weird angle that reflected too much light from the outside window on the blades to the right. The blades on the right are actually a lot darker than that.. The true appearance is more like Keyman's M4 Ritter's (CLICK HERE) Thx KM!

It's night time right now, so I don't have any natural light, but here's some more examples from indoors.. I'll try to get some outside pics when I have time :)

Notice in this example how it's not even a super bright day and the DLC is picking up the woods reflection.. It's plays tricks on you..

Another good pic example.

Notice in this video how angles affect the DLC's color.. Especially at 6:05

Oh man, the more pics you put up the more I want this on all the knives haha! Does black widow price per part? Rough cost for one axis lock knife?

Yum!
I do love me some DLC!
It all looks pretty freakin' awesome PM!
Congratulations.

Waiting with baited breath PM!!! Cannot wait to see how they came out!

The price is based on coating type, part size, and quantity.. It's very affordable, I'd recommend you give them a call with the exact specs of the parts you want coated.

The only caveat is the minimum order charge. It went up from $50 to $100.00 on 06/01/16.. But then again, if you are sending in a few knives like I did, you'll easily surpass the minimum order charge.

There's some more technical info here (page #7)

Here are some non-reflective shots. I noticed that the S30V blades are a little darker in comparison to the M390 blades - so blade finish, prior to DLC application, does play a large role in the final finish outcome. I'm thinking about stonewashing one of the 530 blades as a test blade to see what it would look like.. What do you guys think? Worth a shot?

You absolutely need to stonewash at least one!! I'm sure you know but the DLC Ritters were stonewashed after DLCd and I'm really curious how yours will come out.

My M4 Ritter has by far shown the least amount of wear to use ratio. (Of anything coated)

I always thought a DLC coating was an all black coating. I'm confused....

I hope Benchmade starts using DLC instead of BK, etc. It's so much more lasting.

Benchmade in Oregon City, Oregon is only about 15 miles from Ionbond in Wilsonville, Oregon which is where Zero Tolerance (Kai USA in Tualatin, Oregon) send its knives for Tungsten DLC coating.

Wow PM!! I love that the engraving is still visible!!
They did an amazing job!
