The lack of availability of knives at Spyderco is a fairly recent phenomenon which, I believe, is largely due to demand and supply side issues related to the pandemic.

Add the the fact that they offer so many different knife models and so many variations of many of those models, it's not surprising that it's hard for them to keep everything in production and available at the same time.

Can't say when things will get back to "normal" but the wide number of knives currently "out of stock" at Spyderco is unusual.

If there's a particular knife you want, in my experience, it is unfortunately necessary to check everyday to see if it has become available and then to immediately grab before it goes out of stock again.

A lot of people love the Kapara. It's not my cup of tea but it's back in stock again. Also in stock right now is the SpydieChef which is EXTREMELY popular and I suggest you buy if you don't have one already. It's an easy resell on the Exchange if you end up not liking it.
Sal said they were adding 30,000 square feet to their Golden Colorado facility. They are going to play catch up and if you have their app and such, you get alerts to available knives

I have too many apps on my phone and too my Spyderco knives already. 140 at last count which is just a little less than 1/2 my collection of 316 knives.

But the guy that I was talking to should probably consider getting the Spyderco app to get notices for the knives that HE wants to buy.

LOL! ;)

I love the Axis Lock but the last few time I looked at BM’s product line, I was not very impressed. There was not anything that reached out and grabbed me. At least not enough to open my billfold.

Especially with only a 15% discount off of MSRP.

Lol funny you say that, right after I posted i went and checked there and saw the spydiechef. Its always kind of caught my eye but wasn't sure about it. I grabbed one anyways just to see.

You would think that Benchmade would be jumping through hoops to get military/LEO to purchase their gear.

After their screwup a few years back and all.
If we are thinking of the same screwup, it was them doing something to help the police that pissed everybody off. Just questionable optics, the guns were doomed anyway.

That was the result of the failure that comes from making decisions without asking people what they think about it. Crucial, considering the implications of social media screwups these days. Gotta know your target audience (customer), and if you aren’t sure, ask.

We are NOT going to devolve into a discussion of politics, police tactics, our feelings about police or how they have handled particular incidents.

In fact, since the matter of the discount has already been widely discussed, and Benchmade is a company which must make its own decisions about how they conduct their affairs, address their bottom line, and live with the decision...I see nothing further to be gained here by either supporting or excoriating them for this decision.

Time will tell.
