Hi, I'm new to the forums.
I'm currently looking for an EDC that won't go over $140.
I like what Benchmade has to offer, but I'll leave it open to recommendations.
It must be sturdy and reliable.

I am looking for a 30-50$ knife sharpening kit also.

Thanks

A Ritter RSK Mk.1 at $104.95 plus postage.

It's a Benchmade Griptilian - itself a well-reviewed knife - fitted with a blade made of Crucible S30V, considered by many to be the best cutlery steel available.

It uses the excellent Benchmade Axis lock.

I would second the recommendation on the BM552. It is an oustanding knife and probably the best deal going.

806D2 axis afck, and a spyderco sharpmaker

Exactly what I would have said. I got my AFCK new on eBay for around $100. It is tied with the Spyderco Chinook II as my favorite non-Sebenza EDC.

And everybody should have a Sharpmaker.

A Ritter Grip is a great choice, but the standard Griptilian is no slouch.
Most prefer the thumb-studded 551 full-sized and 556 mini versions.
I recommend that you get a plain edged version.......

The Spyderco Sharpmaker is a great system to maintain your knife.

Get an 805 if you can carry a LARGE folder...Otherwise, a 710 would be a good choice, or even a 721 (if you can find one). Also, for the $140 that you are looking to spend, you could get both a 551 Griptilian, AND a 556 Mini-Griptilian if you shop around.

For a sharpener, a Sharpmaker 204 will do ok, or even a Smith's Tri-Hone if you want to learn to use a bench stone.

I own a 551 Griptilian and I like it a lot. But I've been looking at that Ritter RSK myself and would go that way if I were to buy one today. Can't go wrong either way.
And I would third or fourth the Spyderco Sharpmaker.

is an AFCK, one of the older 800s (Left Handed :D ). Awesome knife. It's a tad long, but it's thin and light. The finish on the G-10 is nice and grippy without shredding my pocket. The clip looks like a Spyderco clip but I don't think it stick out as far (I caught my Ayoob clip on everything but have yet to catch my 800 clip on anything). I have no complaints with the ATS-34 but the D2 is said to be amazing. Happy hunting.

One of my favorite BM's is the 910s.As far as sharpeners go,you can't beat the Spyderco sharp-maker.You'll have to decide for yourself but no doubt you will get alot of good ideas here.tom.

you've got alot of choices - I suggest you narrow down your field a bit by figuring out:
1) how big - 3in blade, 3 1/2, 4in....
2) blade style - tanto, spearpoint, droppoint,...
3) blade type - plain edge, partially serrated,...

you can start figuring these things by deciding what your going to be using the knife for.. casual occasional use? hard everyday use?

the only thing I can tell you immediatly is make sure your benchmade has the axis lock!

hang around the forum awhile and you'll learn alot fast.

You need to give us sme more information to narrow down the possible choices. With that said the Benchmade 705 is a great small EDC.

I use it for about 5 hours a day.

Im running into a bit of money so I'd like to get a new knife. My last one was a Griptillian 551 with the teflon coating, I lost it 3 weeks ago. Im in the new market for a knife. I like the reliability of an Axis lock, but I have been shopping around for Automatics too. (I live in Arizona)

I don't think blade style matters, blade length should be 3 to 3.75 inches.
My old Grip had a combo edge. It had its purposes, but i think i'll go with a plain edge this time.

Thanks

805 TSEK
710
550 or 551 Griptilian
735
The one I've been carrying the most is the 805. Mine has the plain edge, because I couldn't find a combo edge, but now I'm glad mine is plain edged. The blade's a little bit over 3.75" but is below 4".

BM 94x series all the way, great knives, and they will stand up very easily under everyday use.

Another vote for the 551 and 556. They're light, tough, and not too hard on the wallet. I have both and I really like them. :D
