Benchmade EDC Recommendation

I chose these:
805
552
558
555
705

My 556 is missing from the pic as it's at work.

I might have to get one of these for my birthday. If I like the feel of the handle and if it rides well in my pocket it could replace my 710HSSR which has been my EDC for over 3 years now with no problems. The blade design on that Ritter RSK reminds me of the Sebenza blade style, which I love, so it would kinda be like having the blade shape of a Sebenza with an Axis lock. Looks like an excellent recommendation!

I'd say that if you're looking for a big knife, get the 806, which is big and tough, for a smaller one, get the 921, which is slim and a great cutter. If for some reason you decide you want a really big knife, get the 630. Also, since you're in Arizona, you might want to have a look at a Balisong some time, like the 42 or 43. I have all of these and can vouch for their quality.

I have carried a 710HS for nearly a year and rate it highly. Its a big knife, carries small, you can put an obscenely sharp edge that lasts and lasts on the M2 steal and the axis lock is solid ( and fun ). I am sure you will be sattisfied with whatever Benchmade you choose, the 805 or the 806 in D2, or a Grip, Mini Grip or any other.
A Sharpmaker 204 will keep you shaving once your edge profile matches the fixed 30 & 40 degree settings.

I've owned most of the Benchmade AXIS-lockers at one time or another, and the one that's ended up in my pocket the most is the 551 Griptilian (prefer the blade shape of the 551, tried both). It's a very user-friendly knife in terms of materials, lock, clip, blade shape, size, construction, and ergonomics; it seems to be the best suited out of the line-up for a beat-around EDC IMO, although it can seem a little thick in the pocket. It also happens to be fairly inexpensive, as far as BMs go.

I'd probably go for the Ritter Grip in S30V, if given a choice, although the 440C in the standard version takes and holds a very nice edge, and is considerably easier to touch up.

Will also recommend the Spyderco Sharpmaker, and maybe a couple of large diamond plates for hogging off lots of metal.

I'm not a fan of the axis-lock but I do carry many of Benchmades autos.
Currently I have:

9050
3550
9130
9150
5000(An axis-lock auto, but I really like this one.)
I really like the autos. Too bad they don't use the plunge lock on some non autos. They would make some really nice knives at a great price.

Plunge lock?????

They bettter keep using the axis for the sake and happiness of us lefties!!! :D

My favorite Benchmade is the 710. I've sold off most of my production knives, but I'm hanging on to that one.

I've been carrying an 800SBT for a few years now, and still love it. I've heard nothing but good things about the axis version of same, and have considered getting one just to see if all the hype about D2 is justified.

Having said that, have you considered any of the fixed blades? My next knife purchase (for me) is going to be the Snody designed Activator (210). Either that or the Resistor (220) would be a nifty EDC blade if you can swing it legally/socially.

806D2, 806+custom RWL34, 520 and 5000A, 550.

If you really don´t have any preference of one type of knife design, which may justify any higher price, the 550 or 551 is the best and most reasonable decision on a EDC. Quality, design, size, steel grade, security, price, warranty. Nothing will beat this IMHO.

My current EDC is the RSK and I LOVE it. I removed the clip and it ride nice and flat and light-weight in my pocket.

I'd go for the 710, or if you want to go a bit smaller and lighter--the 94X series.

For a sharpening system--the Sharpmaker 204 is a winner. You just have to make a commitment to the 30 or 40 degree angle. Once you do--edge maintenance is a snap.

I have been thinking about buying a few used knives. They may have a few nicks and scratches , but if the price is right you might be able to get more knife for the money.

I'm having the same dilemma, trying to decide which BM will be my next EDC. I like carrying large knives, so I'm mainly looking at the 806. Also trying to decide between serrated or plain blade.

Havent been able to find a shop that has one in stock yet, so I can hold it.

I am no expert in this area but I can suggest the 551. I really like mine. Nice ergonomics, great blade shape. I will probably try the AFCK in D2 next if I can swing it though since I like the G10 handles.

I use it for about 5 hours a day.

Im running into a bit of money so I'd like to get a new knife. My last one was a Griptillian 551 with the teflon coating, I lost it 3 weeks ago. Im in the new market for a knife. I like the reliability of an Axis lock, but I have been shopping around for Automatics too. (I live in Arizona)

I don't think blade style matters, blade length should be 3 to 3.75 inches.
My old Grip had a combo edge. It had its purposes, but i think i'll go with a plain edge this time.

Thanks
FCO

Well in that case, get a 5000.
