hey guys, I'm in the market for a Benchmade edc. My only requierments are that it had a 3-4 inch blade. Some of my ideas were the: Nitrous Stryker, Torrent, Barrage, 940 osborne, or the 530 Mel Pardue. What are your opinions on this list of knives? Which ones would be best for edc?

The Griptilians are very popular. 154CM steel blades, several configurations, lifetime warranty and affordable. I don't think you'd go wrong with a Grip.

I love my Mini Nitrous Stryker. I am going to get a second whenever I can afford it because of the pending new laws:rolleyes: Fires HARD and locks up tighter than any other liner lock I have ever had. I just posted these pics in another thread but just in case:D

i loved my grip wheni had it.

only reason i got rid of it is because i prefer pe to the CE it had, so i traded it for more kershaws.

You most certainly can go wrong with a Griptillian. I bought a Griptillian and sold it because the handle wasn't comfortable for me. Just because x amount of people love a certain knife doesn't mean it'll be comfortable or an appropriate blade length, etc., for you. Try before you buy and good luck.

Probably true. I'v had one for a couple years now, and I love it. I'm not even a fan of "tactical knives", I'm more of a slip-joint kinda guy. There's a reason that it's so popular though.

I have the 530 and I can say....for a edc this is not going to be your first choice. Personally...I like it but I dont use it for edc...I really only use it if Im going somewhere where I want a thin knife that doesnt weigh a lot and doesnt have much of a profile in my pocket...even here people will be able to see it it if its cliped in your pocket...it doesnt ride super low...nor does it go high either...mid range I would say. It really doesnt pack enough beef to stand up to what I want in an edc but if youre only going for light use tasks It might work for you. I would think long and hard though about what youre going to use the knife for before you choose the 530...you may also want to handle it. Hopes this helps.

I feel naked without my 710...

If the blade lenght and the slight recurve don't bother you, consider it.

Hi Guys!

I am new to the forum.

Am considering to get a Benchmade Griptillian as my EDC. Would the 551/553 be any good?

Appreciate everybody's input on this.

Cheers,
MountainMike

Welcome to the forums, Mike!

Both of the models you mention are excellent knives, but for everyday use, I would recommend a plain edge 550 or 551. The 553 tanto is great for self defense, but is not as effective (my polite way of saying 'pain in the arse') for practical use.

I commend you on your choice, as the Grips are one of the best EDC knives around, IMO.

a few questions about the stryker: i have heard that there is a slight rattle when the blade is open, and some one got the knife with a chipped blade. Has anyone had these problems?
