Ritter grip S30V....Cabelas d-2.....
Just stick with the original Griptillian 550, in 440C steel. $60.....Carry and use mine as an EDC. Benchmade's 440C stands up to everyday task, and sharpens like a razor's edge. I believe its all in the way they heat treat their 440C.

My thoughts exactly. Instead of f*cking up my better knives, I just use the BM 551 and re-sharpen when necessary, if necessary. The 440C is fine. Of course I also carry the BM 940 which is close to your price point, but a little over. Its now offered in S30V, but mine is in 154CM.

Can't beat the regular Grip for value.

806D2. If you can still find one, but I think it will be over a hundred if new. I got mine used.
Good luck, let us know what ya get.

Blades

I must say I was impressed by the Ambush I traded for temporarily. A mini ambush might be better, the other was a little large. The blade is not as pointy as I like, but thats easy enough to fix. My experience with the lock was fine, but since it wasnt mine, I didnt use it as hard as one of my own. The edge was nice and thin and cut well. I would suggest a BM42, in the upgraded 154CM, but you're in NY, so thats probably out. And its over your price range.

Strykers can also be had as cheap as $85 new, depending on blade style. I have two of the M2 blades models, and they are cool

As several people have said, if you can stretch up to $110-$120 you can skip the (excellent, but they come better) plastic Griptilians and look at the full built big boys. There was nothing in the world wrong with my 551, except that it is NOT - quite - as good as a 730, 710, 520, 940....

Which is why I traded mine away.

If you want a $60 beater, the Grips are incredible. If you want a ~$110 folder that will do the work AND look classy and feel rock solid forever, look at the non-plastic Axis locks and figure out which one suits your hand, your aesthetics, and your cutting needs. My quick guide -

940 - insanely overbuilt featherweight gents knife
710 - cutting and piercing machine from hell
520 - tankiest of a very tanklike group
730 - offspring of a boot knife and a Loveless drop point. Dead sexy, damn useful

For about $25 over $100 you can still get a BM710HS in M2 steel. GET IT WHILE ITS STILL AVAILABLE!!!! I've had 2 Griptilains, which are nice, but the 710 rules, and the 710HS is the best. Period.

The first post was made in August last year!
What did you choose RedEdge77?

Anyway my advice would have been 551 and a Sharpmaker.

I've got a couple of Griptilions:thumbup: that I use/like when I think some jacker may try to confiscate a custom. The 425 Gravitator:thumbup: is a really nice one too but has a Wharncliff blade. You might be able to get one for under $100 on ebay as I think they may be just a bit more.

For under $50 and a good beater, low-rider clip, 440 steel, non slip grip, get the Pika or the Mini Pika at NG.

I really like the Mini Stryker 905. I got mine for 78 dollars from Sooner State Knives. I think that's a pretty good buy.

Where are BM710HS for 125$ available? I'll take 2, maybe more ... ;)
