i tried to search but it won't let me... i'm sure there are a bunch of other threads like this.

anyways, what's your overall opinion of this knife? i can't find a whole lot of reviews about the fixed blade version. i was planning on getting this for general camping and backpacking use, and was just wondering if this is a solid purchase. any reviews or links are appreciated. thanks :)

the axis version is great, it locks up real tight, i can only imagine that the fixed would be of comparible if not better quality, anyways, a benchmade in and of itself is always a solid purchase.

Benchmade do a great job with 440C. I have owned identical knives in both steels (556 Mini Grips) but did not notice any real difference between the two.

I don't own a fixed Grip, but should imagine that the Rant's handle is much more comfortable.

I came so close to buying one at the outdoor store I used to work at. It is a fantastic knife and value. The blade length is great, the ergos are fantastic, the sheath is really practical too. I kick myself everytime I see one now. I should have bought one. grr.

I have one. It's a good knife, I didn't care for the scales so I made a set from Walnut Burl. Now it's one of my favorites.

I have the Fixed Grip and it rides with my Versipack. I've handled the Rant, and it feels better in the hand, but is larger. However, 154CM is my favorite stainless.

Ive been going back and forth about getting this knife. i didnt really have one in that class. My sog recondo knife is not quite a daily duty knife. I ended up buying a fallkniven F1 and thats a great knife with a great sheath, but I still find myself wanting one of these. Ive felt if before, its comfortable and I would probably buy it if i had a job that required a daily dirty use knife.
My one question/complaint about it is that since the handles are screwed on in two places, I cant help but wonder are there spaces where water would get in and rust? Are they easily removable for cleaning?

Only other problem is that I havent found it comfortable to wear fixed blades. The F1 is not to bad but it shows too much. I have a seki cut rainbow fixed blade seen here

and it doesnt really show when worn on my belt and its a beautiful knife, however the knife handle digs into my side sometimes. If you wear them high then they can be uncomfortable, if you wear them low they can be seen pretty easily. Its legal here but still we have sheeple. As for horizontal belt wear in the back, i could jsut never get used to the feeling of something back there when i sit.

But anywho, i love the fixed griptillian, just cant quite convince myself to get one.

It's a good value, and a very lightweight blade for it's size. Surprisingly lightweight, actually, good for hikers that want to travel as light as possible, but still pack a full size fixed blade knife.

The handle is surprisingly comfortable, even if it doesn't look it. The exposed tang is definitely an odd design choice, though.

The sheath is cheap, and uses a thin plastic liner but again, see the price of the knife. I picked mine up used for about $45.00 off of EvilBay. Still, it seems well designed, and is plenty durable, and thanks to the MOLLE (I think?) webbing on the back, it provides plenty of mounting options.

I've got a Rant Fixed grip and axis grip. I find the Rant more comfortable, but the fixed grip is als a very nice fixed blade. It has some thin handles, but it's a good blade anyway. It's just prefernce. Between the 2 I like the Rant more because of the handle. I don't care much about the steel. Most Benchmade steels are just top quality.

If you're willing to spend more, check out the Doug Ritter MK3 fixed blade by Benchmade. It has a different shape blade and seems to get very good reviews. I have one but have not used it yet, so I can't really comment. Looks good though.

i saw that... a bit expensive for what i was looking to spend, but a very good knife from what i hear.

thanks to all for your input... seems like everyone has a favorable opinion of the griptilian, i especially like that it's a lighter weight knife compared to the rant. i should be a proud grip owner in a few days.

I also handled this knife just last night and i loved the way it felt in my hand. I am thinking of getting one of these myself!

+1 on the weight - easily the lightest of my hiking fixed blades and the primary reason for it's continued use, that and the quality steel. I can sharpen it quickly and easily with a small ceramic stone.
