I was insulted on BM forums so,of course,I resigned.I`m in good company here.I can`t claim to be a banished one.A very appealing thought. After several communiques with BM I said that I would come back if Benchmade invited me publically. This came about tonight. We are the forums.Without us, the sellers have nothing here.Lets remember who has the power. After a good deal of bugging them,C.J. Buck finaly published the production numbers, contract info, and other specs on the M-9.The M-9 was really too good for the regular Army. The Smatchet is next.

It is all attitude of the admins. I left Benchmade forum a long time ago because of how WW was treated. In respect to Bill's wishes about not being overly critical about others here, I'll stop with that.

BST asked me to return so I did.No real bashing.Inf. types are oversensitive anyway.I did not roll around in the mud and the guts and the beer for some snotnose to say martial, when at best, he can only understand play.Martial is played for keeps.I have the scars to prove it.

You know Cliff, judging from the posts, you and I are the only ones who even know what a peavy is,much less how to set up a dbl. bit axe to suit you.

Ghostsix, speaking of setting up a axe. I bought an Estwing camping axe awhile ago and was not overly pleased with the edge it came with so I spent some time thinning it out and then sharpening it. After a bit of work I was very disappointed in its performance. It could not stand harder woods and would not hold an edge. I gave to to my father to comment on. He used it for about 5 minutes and said "It might be of some use if it was sharpened." Good thing I didn't ask him what his opinion was before I worked on it.

In line with not having much of a clue, about 2 weeks into the first summer I was in the woods seriously, we hit a spot of Black Spruce. I was that ignorant I didn't even know they were any different from Pine. Dad had just felled a medium sized tree (about 8-10" in diameter), now I could handle Pine that size and I didn't see any difference so I walked over and went to pick it up. He looks at me and says something like "You want me to cut that in half?". I had seen him lifting out trees bigger than that earlier and didn't take it too kindly what my "old man" was implying. I said no and mutter some unkind comments under my breath. I bent down, pick it up and stood up smoothly (that's the easy part). However on the way up I realize something is not right as the strain is way heavier than it should be. I never make it through the adjustment and pretty much collapse just managing to get the log off of my shoulder. By this time Dad is laughing his head off.

It's refreshing to see how easily you laugh at yourself, Cliff. You would do well in Nepal.

Ghostsix,
I beg your pardon......

Cliff,
Remember what I said some time ago about that Estwing you bought. I still think you got a factory lemon.

Happy trails,
Dan

Mr. Stamp I don't know what size of axe you are looking for butr Mineral Mountain Hatchet works makes some out of differientially tempered 5160 steel. They are 5/16 inch thick and have very long micarta handle slabs. If you are interested I will did out the info for you to contact them.

thanks and take care

You boys are going to love this.I was attacked on the BM forum as posting at a grade school level by a self proclaimed grad student.Either grade school has gotten a lot tougher or grad students have no grasp of either the English language or reality.Or, I am totally insane.Take your pick.Even if you choose nut,I know the English language.

ghost, a forumite observed awhile back that I was probably insane but went on to say that he liked my brand of insanity and hoped I stayed that way.

I will make the same observation about you.

Uncle Bill

Sometimes insanity is a form of genius that just isn't recognized at the right time.

Probably more forumites familiar with the woods than you think. My age is showing, but was raised in a logging camp enviorment during my teenage years. This was in western Oregon. The lure of that life style was appealing, but Viet Nam and then college pulled me away.
Ironically, 2 years later my step dad was permanatly disabled when the tree he was falling barberchaired.
I am no bull buck but familiar. Probably many others here as well.

What? Another knife? Don't you have enough of those things already?
How many does one person need?
And just what are you going to do with this one that you can't do with the others?
What is the purpose of all these knives anyhow??

We have some regular Paul Bunyons in this forum. I grew up in Kansas -- not much demand for lumberjacks there so I'm learning a lot here.
