Benchmade Griptilian H2O

I carry a Benchmade with 154CM every day, and live in a fairly humid environment. I occasionally lube the pivot, but have done nothing to the blade. I've never had a spot of rust.

okay so what is the number for the rustproof/resistant X15 grip. I checked the Benchmade website and couldn't find one, because I would be interested in learning more.

I'm curious why Benchmade hasn't released a Mini version of the H20 Griptilian. Perhaps they are waiting to see how well the full-size H20 sells, but I'd imagine that Mini-Grips account for a decent portion of all Griptilian sales, so I'm not sure how valid that theory is.

The only thing is many people despite loving the mini-grip, the only down side that's reported is the small handle...which could be tough in a salt watery environment

No I don't work around salt water much as I live in Michigan right now, but I do travel A LOT and you never know when a good salt water blade will be useful. And come on I really just love Griptilians and want an excuse to buy another one.

They changed the blade steel, changed the liners to a polished 420J, polished all the screws, and added a polished clip. The stop pin and AXIS bar have a different shade to them than my other Grip so that may be made of a different steel as well.

So far mine has showed no signs of rust but the worst it has seen is some water skiing and whatever food acids I could find around the house. I still haven't got the chance to expose it to any saltwater.

Have you gotten a look at the Omega springs? That would be the weak link. Do they look any different than the regular ones? C'mon, disasemble them, you know you want to.:D

I wrote Benchmade a letter over a couple months ago asking about the springs, liners, stop pin, etc. Basically asking if the rest of the knife had been changed to match the blade steel corrosion standard.

I still haven't heard anything back from them. (What a surprise)

Like another poster said, the blade is the least of my worries.

Let us know how your knife holds up, and what the springs look like.

BTW, does anyone know if someone makes titanium alloy Omega spring replacements?

Sorry for thread bump but I'd rather bump than start a new thread.
I currently have an H2O Grip en route. I know the blade is basically rustproof but how is the rest of the knife? I'm an avid fisherman and would like to be able to carry it on a saltwater lake and potentially have it be submerged at times if I'm fishing from the shore in waiters or swimming, etc... Usually I'm in the boat but there's always the chance it'll get submerged so I'd like to know.
Anybody with any experience of using it in saltwater?

Here's another necro bump. Any reviews? Anyone running one in saltwater environment?

I am kind of looking for an alternative to the H1 Spyderco series.

Benchmade has not used X15 in several years. They now use N680. This is a very good, corrosion resistant nitrogen steel. It has good edge retention, too (better than H1, more like good 440C). I have a BM or two in this steel and they are my go to salt water knives. Good product.
