Benchmade Griptilian

I like how Grips feel in hand, I appreciate the lock, and the blade steel and grind are good. I just can't get over the hollow plastic sound the grip makes.

There is a solution to that too:

Those scales form Bladescales.com are great. I just got a set of full sized black G-10 Anso pattern, installed them and immediately emailed to order a large black set in the Honeycomb pattern. Those scales are going on the Ritter Grip I have EDCd for over 5 years. Eagerly awaiting the upgrade on a trusted user.

I've been really lucky so far with custom scales. I've liked them all.

I had the standard grip black handle, satin 154cm blade, and I traded it because I found the steel subpar. Could have been a bad heat treat, but it lost its edge extremely fast. Overall in my experience, I have not been particularly impressed with Benchmade as a whole. I sold my d2 minigrip as well, and only have my 530 Pardue (which I couldn't sell its been used so much) and the 162 Seibert, which despite disappointing performance with the S30V edge (very susceptible to rolling and chipping) it still has been a decent camping knife. All of the BM's I've owned I've bought at local stores, but I'm still hesitant to buy another. Good luck with your decision, I hope you don't have the bad luck I have.

Where are yall gettin your g10 scales from? I just bought a new Griptilian and want G10 scales instead of these ugly green scales that it's coming with. I love yalls Griptilian pics. Makes me real excited to get mine. I bought the M4 version, I had a Grip a year or so ago and lost it, i wont make that mistake again. This is the knife I just bought and I cannot wait to try that M4 steel out.

Southerfryedyankee,
Those are scales from Allen Putnam he also makes G-10 scales as well. Google it you will find the site.
I just got two pairs of black G-10 for my full sized Ritters. Love them and received great fast service.

Awesome, thank you for the info. I really like the feel of G10 on my knives.

I bought my Grip around 6 years ago. It has been back and forth in my pocket ever since. A great design IMO.

It has been refurbished about a year ago. Lightly stonewashed, pocket clip repainted. Still going strong.

Quick question about canvas micarta, I do A LOT of fishing. I would imagine that micarta would absorb fish goo and start to smell right, and that G10 would be the better material correct?

I have a mini grip and a full size Doug Ritter grip with s30v. I like them both, but prefer the Ritter. As some others have said the scales feel a bit cheap to me. I love the look of some of the aftermarket scales out there but everything I looked at cost as much as the knife. The stock ones seem plenty strong and feel good in the hand so I left them alone.

I like the axis lock, but for what it's worth I have spydercos in the same price range with full liners that feel a little "tighter" to me. Just comes down to what YOU like the best.
