Benchmade Griptillian 20 CV

Whoever you order it from request them to inspect it for qc. So you get one that's centered and sharpened good enough and has a decent action.

I prefer 20cv and it's worth it to me if I get a benchmade without qc issues.

Tho I don't think most have issues with the 154cm besides the few that say it's soft or the even fewer that say it's chippy. It's easy to sharpen.

I believe benchmade thinks pretty highly of 20cv. After all, they have put it on their flagship manual folder the anthem. Having said that, i really think benchmade heat treats their steels so well that no matter which steel you get, you will have a fine blade.

I have quite a few Benchmades in ATS-34/154CM, one in D2 and my favorite, the Griptillian 551-1 in 20CV (and G10). None of them is bad, but for me 20CV is well worth the extra cost.

BTW OP, one other thing you might consider: there's a custom edition of the Grip made in M390, called the Ritter. It's less expensive, you can get it for $140. You might look at that, because it's fully backed by Benchmade warranty, etc., it's just a slightly customized edition but still has the M390 which is the same steel type. Just me, I actually like the drop point blade profile on this custom grip slightly better than the standard one.

I love the Ritter blade variation, but as far as I can tell they are gone, never to return. The only place to get them now is on the secondary market.

Yes, the "-1" versions of the Grips are worth the upgrade price. Yes, the upgrade is also worth it if using the custom builder.
