The HD hardtail looks like a great modern interpretation of the Buck 110, something ive always wanted to EDC but hated not having a pocket clip, and have never been a fan of having more then one sheath on my belt. so my question to yall

is it worth the price tag? any and all experiences etc are welcome

I'd be interested to hear any opinions too.... I was quite keen until I saw the price ($200+ for the 13100 in satin D2)
I do wonder how well the aluminium bolsters wear / scratch?

I have one - picked it up when they first came out.

Pros:
Blade shape
Axis lock
Beefy design
Fast opening
Size (I like the larger folders)
D2 blade does hold a working edge for a long time

Cons:
Skulls on G10 and Harley logo on clip
Somewhat thick scales
D2 blade - can't sharpen to get a clean edge - always "toothy"

The thing is a slicer - I did get a deal on the one I bought, but I shopped around til I found one less than retail - I believe I paid $150 for mine but couldn't tell you where I got it from.

The aluminum bolsters fair very well from a wear standpoint.

Value is a perceived thing - I like the knife although I don't carry it as much as I used to when I first got it. I think the knife is worth $150 if you can find it for that price.

If I remember I'll try to post pics later tonite.

thanks Toyz, and yes that skull in the G10 is really not my preferance but im glad i have a small stack of G10 to replace it with.

as to the toothy D2, thats something i find im getting used to with my CB Leek and CB JYD II, I just put a convex grind on them and im honky dorry, ill carry other knives if i need a razor

I had the mini hardtail for a brief time. Excellent fit and finish, very well built, smooth functioning...and I hated it. The big flaw of the mini, in my hands, was that sharp corner on the butt of the grip. I have fairly wide palms and that point would dig into my palm with most grips, and all the normal ones I would use. I really like the look of the HD, like the blade shape, didn't care for the skulls but I could have dealt with them, but that point on the grip was a huge deal breaker for me.

The full size HD has the exact same shape, but being a larger grip maybe that wouldn't be a problem, but I'd definitely want to get one in hand before spending any money on it. If they only rounded off that corner it would really be a modern Buck 110 and I'd love it, but sadly for me it's not ment to be.

Well, I have a Mini-Rukus and a 710, love 'em both, but somehow my Buck 110 finds its way onto my belt when I roll out the Harley. Just seems right...

@ Haakon - well hopefully plaza cutlery has one in stock i can fiddle with. I just pulled out my 110 and tried imagining it having that edge you were talking about. I find that I naturally choke up on the blade so i dont think that point will be to much trouble for me, though if it really is a bother, i have a grinder at my disposal

thanks for the input

I would buy one if they offered a version without HD on the blade and the skull on the scale:rolleyes:...
