First of all, this post is not to belittle, bad-mouth, or discredit Benchmade. I am a new knife-nut searching for answers. I have, as most of you, noticed how Benchmade raised their knife prices. My question: should we (consumers) be upset?

Thank you for your insight and opinions

I would have to say that all of my Benchmades were bought at my local gunshop for around the prices you're now seeing online. I bought them at a time when those same knives were usually available cheaper online, so I could support my local gunshop. So maybe it's just that online prices are now catching up to street prices? I'd have still paid it either way, as my Benchmades are some of my favorites.

Not so much as a price increase but a discount reduction. The MAP prices haven't changed.

I was searching for a thread about this topic, but I couldn't find it. Thanks for the help and insight, and, once again, this information is very helpful.

I counter Benchmade or any knife company raising prices by going for a cheaper model. I have to draw the line somewhere or I won't have food on the table. Plenty of cheaper decent knives out there or I can just live with what I have already.

As long as Benchmade holds the patent for the Axis lock, slight price increases won't stop me from buying Benchmades :)

I have sworn off benchmade since all this happened. Their attemtps at making more money has only made them lose customers, not 'brought the value of their product up'. Theres thousands of quality knife companies, theres no reason to be swindled by a multi mullion dollar company.

HEY everything is going up in price. Why shouldn't they do the same?? They are made in the USA and are very good. What do you want?? To pay for a china knife but get a Benchmade ?? Bottom line is you get what you pay for.

Everything is getting more expensive. I am a machinist and manufacturing engineer. Steel prices are on the rise, cutting tools are costing more, employees need raises to put food on their tables. Everything is on the rise. So if it is made in the USA you can expect prices to go up just like everything else.

I will still buy the benchmades that grab my attention. Do I like the MAP enforcement? Nope, but it is what it is.

The prices Benchmade sells the knives to their dealers has not changed--only our prices. Benchmade makes the same amount of money or less because fewer people will buy the higher prices. Marking up a product by 15 to 20 percent that is no different from the cheaper product is failed marketing.

I have been keeping up on the thread in the BM sub forum. I have wanted a 710 for awhile now and should have struck when I could find them at about $116.00, are they worth $140.00 or so now? I went with a Military instead at the lower price.

I was talking with the owner of a local shop (Benchmade dealer) the other day and he told me that Benchmade has not raised it's prices in a year at the dealer level (wholesale). What Benchmade is doing, is enforcing their MAP policy for their Benchmade dealers......no more discounts, coupons, etc. below MAP.

Where in all this is the "swindling" you are talking about?

Please stop buying them everyone. Then they can file bankruptcy, eventually never recover and be forced to sell to me. I won't enforce MAP pricing. :)

I must be missing something. Why is BM doing this?

As much as I like their designs I keep shopping elsewhere because I can get better deals from other manufacturers. If BM wouldn't have this strange pricing policy I'd have a lot more BM in my collection.

I have always bought my knives at local stores so i've been paying close to retail. This wont affect me much but i could see how it will ruffle some feathers.

Here's a question for everybody - how many of you own an Apple product? They enforce MAP at all retailers.

As someone else said, I've bought a few of my Benchmades for more than I could have gotten them online because I wanted to support local brick and mortar stores. I see this price increase as Benchmade making sure all dealers are frequented fairly equally.

It's a gigantic instant price hike for those of us who shop at vendors like Knifeworks - not to mention a kick in the pants for the vendor as well. One day I can buy a brand new 940 for $128 and the next it costs $178. Sure benchmade didn't raise their prices but they sure as hell raised mine. I understand gradual price increases but 40% overnight? No thanks...I don't care how they choose to word it.
