I had some time to spend with a custom knifemaker and friend of mine yesterday, TM Hunt. He's taken on the arduous task of making me into a knifemaker. I've made a couple smaller blades before, but in my feeling this one was done more by my own hands with Todd doing the fine tuning. I carry daily a Benchmade Bone Collector that I'm very fond of, but with the idea it would make an excellent fixed blade. I'm also noticing a chip or two in the D2, so we decided that a fixed blade O1 version would be interesting. Here's what I have so far from drawing to pr-heat treat.

Hopefully Todd will have some pix and details to add.
Thanks for looking!

Just for all of you that find it hard to believe that Murph was actually doing something other than swallerin beers and pickin fights with my 7year old son here he is in the grinding room flat grindiang his blade. He got a little wild with it a couple of times, but we was able to fix it and get him back on track. hell he even managed to spell his name right with my punch set;-) he's a fast learner and a good friend. Now if I can just get him to quite breakin my saw blades and pick up a broom once in a while all will be right in the world! ;-)

Looks good Murph. Knifemaking is something I've always been fascinated with.

There is no way that you are not a knifemaking addict now.

No sleep for you !

About that D2 chipping, there might be a possibility that it is heat treated to a high hardness.
To a too much high hardness.
People always go for high hardness although it is not always a best solution.
D2 gives nice performance even at lower hardness.
Don't fear to try it, I love it.

Cheers.

That's a good looking knife Murph, what have you decided to go with for the handle scales?

Thanks guys! So far my idea is black and green micarta similar to the look of the pocket knife. I like the look of the pocketknife, but just want something a bit more robust on my hip.

Good call, I think that will look nice.

My money is on your 7 year old son kickin' Murph's arse.

Oh I know the boy could take him. You ought to see Murph tremble with fear when my son threatins to clober him with a lead hammer! ;-)

Nothing too exciting to update from this weekend, just some heat treating pix.

Just to add to murphs rant. It did come out to 60 rc. What he didn't tell you is we drew it back 4 pnts to 56. Of coarse he may not of remembered that part. He did real go on the heat threat. But if someone else can explain to him how a rockwell tester works that would be great. He sure as hell didn't get what I was tellin him.
