Benchmade is a Class Act

Too bad you don't have it anymore, I'd love to see a picture or to. Well, maybe you did minimize the problem, for the off-center blade you use as an comparison is a blemish that a knife in that price range shouldn't exhibit. I wouldn't necessarily send a folder with an off-center blade back either (unless it touches a liner), but I certainly would not be surprised if someone wanted to return a knife with such a flaw.

A pinky fingerprint-sized slightly concave spot visible only under red LED light doesn't exactly sound like a problem to me. ;)

I really don't see a point in flaming rifon for complementing Benchmade, either. Some people are pickier than others. If I spotted a concave area in a flat ground blade, I'd be irked too. I may or may not send it in depending on how severe it is, but I may have different standards than rifon.

I think it's great that they replaced the blade and it shows how understanding Benchmade is of the more scrutinizing knife nuts who demand quality. It also shows Benchmade backs their product very strongly.

Besides, if the problem was so small, I'm sure the knife is being recirculated anyways. It'll probably end up in the hands of someone who just doesnt inspect their knives so carefully.

That's great that they're willing to do that for customers. Really, it is. (One of the reasons I EDC a Benchmade).

But, with you being so picky (as you yourself described), all you're doing is driving up knife prices. You think it didn't cost BM to fix/replace that blade?

...

I'm glad to hear they treated you well, but overall this type of return just hurts all buyers in the end.

Just my thoughts...

That may very well be true, but for some of us (myself included) $100+ dollars is not a trivial amount to spend on anything other then what is expected. I mean, for that much money (well it is a lot of money for this poor college student), it better be perfect.

I recently purchaced a BM 707 (BTW, very, very nice. My first "quality" knife) and I noticed a flaw in the grind near the tip. It looks as if the tip is bent from stabbing, but if you inspect the other side, or the top, you can see it is a flaw in the grind.

I will be sending it to Benchmade shortly and will report on my experience.
