benchmade is a lifesaver !

definately not worrying about an extra 4 minutes to harness up after that experience, t i'll write benchmade and thank them for sure, didnt even think about doing that ! madchild, im sorry to hear about your friend, all i could think about as i started to slide was that i'll never get to experience being old, odd as it sounds, i dont know what even made me think about stabbing a knife into the roof, yo mama, the knife looks the same as before, still locks up just as secure also, and i weigh 220 lbs so i know i tested that lock ;)

Great story, glad your safe-kind of makes you rethink knife tests
I hope the water from the other side wasn't intentional!

ohmyheck - it was stabbed in spine towards me, at a bit of an angle, put on my harness yesterday for some super simple ladder work, call it paranoia..

Wow! I'm glad that you had the presence of mind and a knife to do that. Thanks for sharing the story. You should post your story on this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/928576-Has-Your-Knife-Ever-Saved-Your-Life

My brother in law had a very similar situation. He was working on his cabin which ad a fairly steep pitched roof.
For him, it was a 2 story drop. Not being a knife guy, he used the claw on his hammer to stop himself.

Yep, that's why roofing hammers have claws that are almost straight, as opposed to a traditional claw hammer with curved claws.
To the OP, glad you're ok! That certainly was a quick-thinking reaction.

Glad you didn't get hurt, construction can be dangerous if you are around the wrong people or you let your mind wander. Luckily you knew what to do quickly

Being a roofer/architectural metal guy myself and a huge Benchmade fan and owner, I love this story. Very glad you didn't fall. I know how big of a pain it can be to tie off sometimes, but your health/life is worth the hassle.

sorry to bump this again, but benchmade is awesome !! i emailed them my thanks, and got a 50% off coupon !!! now i get the headache of deciding which benchie shall be next

Great story, glad you're alright. Good on Benchmade for with the 50% off coupon and even better for you!

Congrats on both good outcomes, Seth. May you never have to stab a roof again.

I agree with others. A guy I grew up with fell 60+ feet a year or so back. Took his harness of to walk across the roof to get materials. He hit hard hat first and bounced. Thankfully the ambulance was there in less than 5 minutes.

My uncle taught me to keep my hammer in my hand always and bury out if I slipped.

why you shoudl alwyas use your harness. dont really quite understand why people dont use them. I had solar pannels installed and watched all the guys working on my roof which has a 10 foot drop in one area and more like a 35-40 foot drop on the other side of the house. everyone had harness on but nobody was anchored. if someone fell, i doubt they would be getting up if they fell off the long end but im not their mothers and I dont tell people how to live their lives. In the end, you pays your monies and you takes your chances!

bump, people asking for the story..

i dont have any hidden agenda in the giveaway, i believe in karma, something good happened for me, why not pass on something good to someone else :) plus bladeforums is what helped me choose the griptillian in the first place.

wow !!!! very intuitive and cleaver !
i was a roofer not so long ago ... and i'm sure , in a such case, i would not have been able to think to my bench to save my life !
i'm very, very impressed !
and happy for your life !

Wow! That's a nightmare story. I'm glad you came out ok.

Don't forget that Benchmade will be happy to sharpen that knife up for you, fix any minor tip damage, etc.

The other thing to please do is copy your story to KnifeRights. They collect these sorts of stories.

Did you stab it hammer fisted, ice pick? You mentioned it's spine towards you, so you switched grip?

Saw your giveaway thread, very generous!

Now, anyone stating they don't need a solid lock should read this story ;)
