Benchmade knives?

The 710 and Osbornes have that neat aluminum handle that scratches all up real easy.

Get da GRIP

:)

Why Benchmade doesn;t do something about that is beyond me. Surely they've heard the complaints about the "cheap feeling" of the Zytel, or whatever fancy plastic it is. And, alot of it has to do, I think, with the fact that the plastic isn;t completely glued to the knife, leaving a little looseness to "click" against the frame when handling.

Some nice G10 would go a long way to making the Griptilian one of the best folders around.

The Griptilians were meant to be "introductory-level" Axis lock work knives; therefore, the plastic (Noryl GTX??) handles. Both the large and small Grips are actually very good knives, and pretty tough. I'd say the small Grips feel more 'solid' due to the fact that their steel liners fill more of the knife than do the large ones. I may be wrong, but the small Grips' handles also seem to be of a different 'plastic' that the large ones(?).

If BM were to make the handles G10, the Grips would no longer be introductory-level Axis knives. Plus, if someone is aware that the Grips are only one category of knife design in the Benchmade lineup, I doubt they would necessarily give someone a bad opinion of their quality.

thanks again for all your input and suggestions. I will take a close look at a number of those mentioned in the posts. The 710 gets quite the votes so I will probably start with that one and then move over to others.

I'm not a fan of the handles on the Griptilians

My recommendations:
Axis: 615, 707, 710, 943
Nitrous: 890, 907, 913

Of course, you said that you want "A folder that represents well what the company is all about in both function and it's quality", so I can't leave the 42 off the list.
