Benchmade Mini Grip - Disappointing

Was too small for me...I knew it the first minute I had it. Love the full sized version though- it's in my pocket right now waiting on cuscadi scales!

Thanks again guys.
Its not the scales that are bothering me, I think it might be that I just dont think its worth the $70 I paid for it. I think It would be a great knife for $50.

It is easily worth the price- good quality, good blade steel, made in USA. Spyderco Delicas and such have similar qualities and similar prices. There are some pretty good knives on the market that cost less such as the Spyderco Tenacious but they are mostly made in China. There are knives with similar features except G10 or aluminum handles, such as the Spyderco Sage or Benchmade 707, but they typically cost $100 or more. So I don't think there is anything wrong with the price point of the Griptilian.

I ditched my mini-grip too. The handle was just meh, and I wasn't a fan of the saber grind. Switched to Spyderco and Kershaw instead.

Aside from having to sand off the molded jimping crap all over the handle, I love the mini grip. For me it's perfect for quick cut-n-go tasks but also comfortable to use during extended cutting. No hot spots at all.

If you can get over the plastic feel they're great. If you can't get over it, buy some replacement scale or make your own. I prefer the Ritter version with an LE steel like M2 or M4. But, the standard Mini-Ritter is s30v, which is no slouch either.

any info on where to buy replacement scales?

I just got my minigrip in the mail and so far i like it a lot but i'll admit, it doesn't stand out that much for a $70 knife. Also, it's really not the sharp. I spent a couple minutes using a steel on it and now it's better but it's still not as sharp as i'd like, especially for the money. That being said, it's hard for me to imagine a more functional knife.

I hate my MiniGrip too. It refuses to let me carry any of the much nicer knives I own! None of them seem to measure up to the feel, blade to handle ratio, ease and quickness of use or ability to take up no space in my pocket like the Mini. I also like the way the blade looks- I know that's just really subjective, but I like the standard profile better than the Ritter. For me, the blade has always been thin enough to slice what I need it too, but strong enough that I don't worry about prying the occasional staple or what have you. In over 5 years I just haven't been able to fault it as an EDC.

Meanwhile, some very nice knives go without the attention they deserve. If I could just get one with some upgraded scales and a blade in M390 I'd quit even trying to find a replacement.
