Benchmade Mini Griptilian. I think it's too small.

I'm visiting family out west and found a great knife shop where I was able to pick up and hold a lot of the models I've thought about buying. I'm glad I didn't buy the Mini Grip because I think it's too small for my hands and would be hard to use imo for an edc modern folder. I liked the regular Griptilian but the liners aren't as good as the Mini Grip and the handles I'm not crazy about. A great store with tons of knives but way overpriced.

What about the full sized Griptilian's liners gives you concern?

The mini-grip is a good 3 finger knife for me, but yah, if you're looking to get a full grip on it its too small.

After I put down the Mini Grip and picked up the Delica, it was like night and day. Delica felt great in hand but I'd have to get used to the hole to open the knife. Love the feel of it though.
They had a PM2 which I liked but only the camo handles and I like the black. Also asking $200 for the PM2 which is a ripoff.

You started a thread just to tell us you think the Mini is to small ???
They make knives in all sizes, and the word "mini" usually means its a smaller knife :p

The Mini Grip gets a ton of great reviews, and I'm sure it's solid, but until you pick one up with your own hands, you won't know if it's for you or not. I was ready to put down money for this knife based on the reviews, but now that I've held it, there's not a chance I would buy one.

I have a Mini Grip and a Delica. The Mini is a great little knife and yes it seems a bit small at times for me but still a good knife. Overpriced, probably. I do think the Delica probably fits the hand better. Both good knives.

I thought the Mini Grip comes with better stainless steel liners and the full size Grip doesn't. Is this correct?

If you're referring to the steel, no, they're the same steel. Only difference is the Mini's takes up the whole handle, whereas the Grip's are only part of the handle (to save on weight)

The Grip and Mini Grip have about the same size steel liners. In the Mini they contour it to fit the handle. In the full size, it is a straight bar, but it is still the same size as the Mini's liner. The handles on the full are just longer. Make sense?

Also, I had a Mini Ritter Grip, and liked it for discreet carry. I could pop it out, cut something with the knife half hidden in my hand, and put it back in my pocket without anyone raising an issue. That's the appeal I guess. However, I sold that and am now carrying the full size Ritter Griptilian, which fills the EDC role better for me. :)

If you are worried about the liners on the full sized Grips, don't worry. I have EDCd the same Ritter for over 4 years (after EDCing a Mini Ritter for the previous several years) and use it daily indoors and out, urban and wilderness. No issues at all, in fact after time the handle texture will smooth out a little. If you break a Griptilian you abused it plain and simple.

Why yes, yes I did.:D Also, if you don't care for the thread, there's plenty more out there.

Don't care for it ??? Heck, it gave me a good laugh :D
I mean, who would've ever thought Mini and Small had a similar meaning. Thanks for that:thumbup::p

I'm not crazy about the Grip series in general. The mini grip is definitely too small for EDC for me. Minimum blade length has to be 3"...3.5" is about perfect.

If it was just a little too small for your liking, the Wilkins scales add to the length and size a bit and make it feel more substantial: tank like. Additionally if the regular Griptilain is the size you like, any after market scales: Wilkins, Keyman, DOAT, or Cuscadi resolve that hollow feel of the regular grip.
I know where you are coming from on all points. I will add, even with the smaller size of the mini-grip I was originally not impressed with it as it was my first BM and first knife over $100. I too tried both sizes with similar observations. Since keeping the mini, it grows on you everyday. Now with the Wilkins scales it is my main EDC; Ritter of course.
Not sure you want to spend the extra $$$ for scales, but they really make it a whole new knife (either case) and take it to the next level.

The 940 is nice too for the added length and the 710 may be the ticket if you like the size of the standard Griptilian. I do know this, if you are wanting a BM with all the models and variations there is one for you out there. Maybe a LE or DE to get the right materials, but it's probably out there.

you think the mini grip is too small until you start to edc then it becomes one of the best knives youve ever had, thats what happened to me!

Benchmade Regular Griptilian. I think it's too big.

I kind of know where you're coming from, because even when you read the measurements, it's not the same as holding one. Sometimes two knives with the same length and width on paper will feel very different. Ergonomics, you know?

I really like my mini, and I thought I would also like the full sized one, but when I held one in a store, it just felt too big.
