Out of box did you get a dull one? Mine came super dull with hardly any visible edge like a dollar store knife after 2 hours on the shark maker it's useable but not paper cutting hair splitting

From what I've heard your experience is out of the norm. Mine came pretty sharp, but nothing astounding. I always buy a knife expecting to reprofile it before it becomes usable.

Mine was hair shaving sharp, also push-cut A4 paper no problem.

On the subject the first time I sharpened it I had a hell of a time, now that Ive put a normal V-grind on it its like any other knife (I free hand), actually it sharpens very easily I think.

I don't own one but the ones I have handled in store have been quite sharp out of the box.

I've had 2 mini grips and they both were sharp out of the box. Maybe needed light touchups, but definitely did not need 2hrs on the sharp maker.

My first Mini Grip was sharp, but just barely. My second mini grip (M4 special edition) came very sharp, but still not to hair-shaving sharp levels. I love Benchmade, but their out-of-box sharpness levels have been horridly inconsistent. Just my own experiences, mind you.

yes, my LE m4 mini grip was sharper than my s30v mini grip.

Perhaps the OP can share which steel was on his blade.

My full size S30V Griptilian was (and still is) sharp enough to easily shave hair out of the box. It's actually better than my razor.

I have quite a few grips & mini grips in various steels. All came sharp out of the box. I have had knives from other companies that were dull out of the box. So, what did I do? I sharpened them. IMHO, that is part of owning a knife... ;)

I think you got a lemon:( mine both came very sharp, and were easy to touch up when they dulled. Sounds like your got skipped at the sharpening station.

My mini grip (S30V) came straight from BM very sharp. After some use I touched it up on my Sharp Maker and it's is still very sharp.

Just ordered some diamond stones that should fix it. Should I use the 40 degree or 30 degree? I was trying 40 since I heard they come at 60ish

Both my mini grips came really sharp, not my wicked edge sharp, but still pretty good. Just remember they are hand sharpened and sometimes you gotta train the new guy...

Mine was reasonably sharp. It shaved hair, but wasn't nearly as sharp as my benchmade AFO II auto was out of the box. Who ever sharpened that knife at the factory was having an exceptionally good day. It was sharper than any CRK, Hinderer, ZT/Kershaw (which in my experiece comes very sharp), or Spyderco that I have owned. It would actually feather hair out of the box, CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!?!?! I was astonished.

My 154cm mini-grip was among the sharpest knives I've purchased. My mini barrage however couldn't cut melted butter, and took 20 minutes or so on the lansky and strop to get it up to snuff. I would have preferred it came as sharp as expected out of the box, but I'd have to do it myself sometime anyhow...

All of my Benchmade knives came with functional edges, some were super sharp, others not so much. But none of them where dull and the worst ones only needed a bit of honing.

If you're in the US, instead of spendong hours on the Sharpmaker, send it back to Benchmade. Something that dull, with "hardly any visible edge", shouldn't have hit the streets.
