Benchmade Mini Griptillian Vs. Spyderco PM2

The Ritter mini will run basically the same price as the P2, and both will have an S30V blade. Like/dislike of the compression lock is purely personal preference, so no disagreement with you there, either. To be clear, I don't dislike the mini or think it's a bad choice - I have three of them. If I had to pick, though, for me, it'd be the P2.

Well, to be much more fair, the PM-2 does cost about $40 more, so it should be the one to get between the two. Now for a more fair comparison, either the BM 13960 ($90 right now at an online dealer), or the Ritter mini-grip. I would take either of those over a PM-2, but thats mostly cuz I dislike the PM-2's lock, and find it rather bulky for how much edge you get. Ergonomically though its a dream.

I think the only way you're going to get S30V in a Mini is going to be by doing a special order from Benchmade or buying the Ritter version.

PM2 & Mini-Grip both have nested liners :(and S30V:(.
The Limited Edition Mini-Presidio has full liners:thumbup: and M4 steel:thumbup:!
BM525BK-1101!!:D

Went ahead and fixed that for you.

I don't have a mini here with me, but to add to your point, my recollection is that the liners in the mini are very close to full-length, although they are recessed/nested...for all practical purposes, they are "full" liners. That's not true of the full sized Grip. So, maybe another  for the mini... ;)

Tough choice, both are excellent knives

Its not a fair comparison since they are not even in the same class. but both excellent knives for the money.

For a real price comparison look at the Doug Ritter Mini Griptilian VS the PM2, but even then the mini grip comes out with you paying less.

It's apples and oranges.

Off topic: Where'd you get that clip for the Mini Grip?

On topic: I own three Mini Grips, one being the Ritter, which I love. I don't own, but I like the PM2, but get the feeling the blade tip is too thin for my needs. IMO a tip like that is better at precision cutting or slicing and for precision cutting I carry a smaller blade like my Ladybug. I prefer a stronger tip on a blade the size of the PM2.

If you shop with any care at all, they come out within a buck or two of each other. There is a structural difference due to the fact that the Ritters are not sold at a discount while the Spyderco knives are.

The issue here is whether you want as large a knife as the PM in your pocket and want a larger blade. You can get a larger blade with a Griptilian for less.
Blade size is also a question. I rarely need a blade the size of the PM for edc. I have the BM minigrip. Alternatives to consider are the Spyderco Caly 3 with ZDP189 or
a variety of Spyderco knives with S30V....perhaps the Native.

Don't get wrong.:foot:
I think both knives in question are great and I am a fan of both.
I just happen to think the real excellent deal happening right now is the LE Presidio's and LE Mini-Presidio's in M4. You can get a grip or a PM2 anytime.
 A Presidio in M4......................not so much.

Both are very good knives (my mini-grip is in D2, PM2 in S30V). As much as I like the mini-grip, despite the Axis lock which I don't like at all, I don't EDC it. The PM2 is a much better EDC for me since I have XL hands. Very comfortable grip, but kind of oversized with respect to the blade. Full size Griptillian might be a closer match.

As others said, you will do well with either knife.

Having had tried both, plus owned other BM axis locks and owned the PM 2, I'd choose the PM2. And I'm saying that as a LH user who really likes the BM Axis lock. I rotate 2 folders for my EDC, and one of them is a BM Mini-Rukus with axis, the other is the PM2.

The PM2 does not bother me really, even as a LH user. I can get it open and closed one-handed, and that's all I really care about. I don't have much illusion of trying to use a folder as a defensive tool anyway (I carry a CCW, plus a fixed blade for that), so whether it's "fast" to open is, IMO, kind of irrelevant.
