Good evening all, just as the title says i am looking for a new blade to add to the EDC line up. I like the mini onslaught but don't have the ability to handle it - I also like the para 2 (and had one once before I traded it for my first mini dejavoo). I'm just a little torn between the two. Let me know what you think makes a better EDC and why.

BTW just a little about me and my preferences.

1. I currently EDC a Benchmade 890 Torrent and Mini Dejavoo and love them both.
2. I don't care about blade steel anymore - as I go on carrying knives I care more about blade shape and the handle.
3. I also don't care much about lock strength - I never use my knives in a way that would risk the lock failing (I'm actually thinking about just EDC'ing slip joints, LOL)

I have had both and the Para smokes the Onslaught. The Onslaught is really thick and heavy and shaped wrong. For me at least

If you have traded already your Para 2 for Mini Dejavoo and have no regrets - take Mini Onslaugh now. That is sort of obvious. I have handled Mini Onslaugh and liked it a lot. Great blade shape, and good knife size - have clear family similarities with Dejavoo, which is of course no surprise.
And there are so many Para 2 lovers here on bladeforums already... You certainly do not want to be just another brick in the wall! :D
Or save money and take Endura FFG ZDP189 - if you like it thin.

I vote para 2 as well. Better value overall and just better for EDC overall IMO. I also really don't like the onslaught's pocket clip.

I just got my Para 2 today love it! Its bigger than I thought. Ive been EDCing a Delica 4 so my para 2 will take some getting use to.

i don't have any experience with the mini-onslaught, but the size, ergonomics, weight and weight balance of the para2 are perfect for me. i have a pretty good selection of EDC knives and my para2 sees more pocket time than all of them combined.

Oh man. Forgot about the pocket clip on the Onslaught... It is terrible.

with the para2 you can use the pocket clip on any of the four corners

The weight of these two is identical. The Onsluaght does indeed have an odd pocket-clip. But it also has a very wide and thin flat grind, so I will be a more efficient cutter than the large majority of other knives. I handled one locally and it made me want one. But without holding one first, buying might be as gamble due to the somewhat unique handle and pocket-clip. The Para-2 would be a safer choice, but you might also really like the 746 if you're willing to roll the dice.

Hello,

The onslaught'sa clip is crap but a few people make a low profile clip for it. I just got a para 2 about 3 weeks ago and itsmy new edc. I've used it for two camping trips and put it to what I would call heavy use. The edge retention was great and I didn't get any hot spots. Check out the manix 2 its kinda like the best of both world's. Has similar blade shape and a ball lock. Its thinner then the onslaught but has the feel of the para2.

Good luck,

Chris
