Why is it that you can buy a spyderco for 40% off of MSRP but you can only find a benchmade for $5 to $10 off of MSRP?

minimum advertised price, you have to put the item in your cart to see the actual price on many sites. dumb move on BM's part, imo

You can find Benchmade knives for similar percentages off MSRP at certain dealers, but some of those are incidentally the same dealers that Benchmade has decided to snub.

look around online theres places with benchmades a lot cheaper than 10 off the msrp. i just saw a 170.00 retail BM for 107.00. in fact the cheapest place I've found for BM is about 60 or 70 dollars off MSRP most of the more pricey models.

You either advertise them for what Benchmade says, or they "lose" your orders. They don't refuse them, they just ignore you when you ask where that order you placed two months ago is. One of the reasons I no longer buy their products. I am not a dealer, but my closest brick & mortar store is one of the dealers who have been treated that way.

The last benchmade I got was from NGK. It was a pika for $27 which I believe is pretty close to retail. NGK usually has the lowest prices out there. Has benchmade forced them to not discount?

Did this happen to NewGraham? I remember there was an issue with NGK and BM a little while back, but didn't know the whole sitch.

savson knives and swords is cheaper they just don't always have what i want, but they have free shipping over 125 and quite a bit of benchmade's models.

$27 is 32.5% off msrp ($40, on BM's site).

I see Benchmade knives for big discounts on quite a few dealer websites. Many of them probably get the knives from wholesalers like Moteng.

As I understand it, Benchmade will not supply dealers who refuse to abide by Benchmade's minimum advertised price. That doesn't mean they can't discount the actual sale. But this price stabilizing seems to lead to an atmosphere of competitive rigidity.

Many will price match but you must call and ask them too. They must price the knives at what BM tells them too otherwise they'll lose their product. Several On-line sources have priced matched.

Well I know the Griptilian is like $113 on Benchmade's site, but gpknives has it for like $62.

Totally depends on what it is...

...and when.

Try to get any "Waved" Spyderco for 40% off MSRP.
You used to be able to pick up a Benchmade D2 AFCK for $95. Try that now. I just sold one for $150 and it went fast. (Of course, they're recently discontinued.)

It's probably not a really good rule of thumb, what you're saying; it just probably SEEMS that way when you're looking for somethings particular. ;)

Retailers aren't allowed to advertise prices below BM suggested MSRP- some companies get around that by not showing prices and giving email quotes- gpknives is one of them. Newgraham has never followed the policy, they list their prices.
