Benchmade new releases?

Depending on where you reside (if in Canada), there is a rather large west coast dealer in B.C. that has a rather large selection of Benchmade knives and I have bought several discontinued models for a fair reduction on the original price the past few years. They also have a good selection of customized 551/550, 556, 580/585, 535 etc. Not cheap but sometimes our wants do tend to get expensive.

I have purchased from that same dealer. 👍

I saw some interesting pics from a dealer catalog of some 2022 models. A new wharncliffe called the Immunity. Looks cool. The Taggedout which is much like a clip point Bugout. A new OTF called the Shootout. A beefy looking grivory folder called the Redoubt. There was a Cruwear fixed blade with G10 handles called the Anonimus that I will absolutely buy first chance. A sleek little fixed blade called the Flyway. Plain edge Claymore finally. A lot of brand new designs for sure and lots of Cruwear, CPM-D2, CPM-154 and the usual steels.

Did you see that Benchmade's 2022 lineup was announced today? A handful of new releases, one collector's piece, a number of hunt/fish knives, a KILLER CruWear fixed blade and a few evolutions of product families (Adamas Mini, Bugout Mini, Meatcrafter and Claymore plain-edge variant)!

Looks solid, IMO!

The “Shootout” looks like pure sex to me. I’m definitely picking that up. The “weekender” is catching my eye as well.

I gotta say, this year looks better than the crap they shoveled out last year.

Everything seems kinda meh to me. I like the Taggedout, but I'll probably wait for aftermarket scales to be available for it. The Redoubt has an interesting handle construction, but ultimately is pretty generic looking to me.

I guess I'll just keep waiting for them to figure out how to make a good manual axis flipper, like SOG did a few years ago. I had hoped this would be the year.

Much of the new stuff are automatics so that's a no-go for me unfortunately.

The Taggedout and the Weekender look fairly useful so I'll likely grab those later this year.

They could probably easily rework the butch ball 300 flipper they did a few years ago but have just moved More into the hunt line.

Some of the looks aren't bad but I do see some value issues. I am not a steel snob but some of the MSRP's on the new ones are going to get some questionable looks. For instance, I really like the look of the Redoubt as a kind of new take on the griptilian series. I think CPM D2 gets pretty good marks when heat treated well but that paired with Grivory scales at $180 isnt going to turn many heads. Their existing S30V griptilian is listed on their site for $130 or $140 right now.

The Taggedout is another one that looks attractive to me. Kind of like a hunters version of a the bugout and I do like me some CPM-154. Though with grivory scales at $190 on their site you have to wonder what makes that $30 more expensive than the S30V bugout listed on their site right now.

Maybe I am making a mountain out of a mole hill and I realize there are always price increases year over year but given how similar some of these are to existing models you presumably have to do something to incentivize someone to pull the trigger on the new models rather than going for one of the cheaper evergreen knives that have been around in similar configurations for years now.

Taggedout for around 130$ would be a decent offering I think, 190$ way too much.

Unfortunately seeing the preorders starting to populate now on major retailer sites and the price concerns seem fairly legitimate. Redoubt will be going for more than a standard griptilian despite what most would consider a downgrade in steel from S30V to CPM D2 and the same scale material of GRN. I might pick one of the new models up but likely will be on the secondary market over a year from now where the price will be cut by 25%.
