Benchmade Nimravus Experience

The knife was made for the use you want it for, and think you would really like it.

I have one of the old ones(ats34, that came with the very thin kydex sheath) and its slim design makes it very easy to conceal.
That said, I never carry it, as I'm not really into knives for defence.

I don't understand why you find 154CM difficult to sharpen.

I don't find 154CM difficult to sharpen. I find Benchmade's 154CM difficult to sharpen. For some reason, I can never get it as sharp as I can get my other knives in 154CM from other manufacturers (Spyderco, for instance). I have two different ones, the 530, and the Nimravus. Both of them I can get pretty sharp, but not as sharp as the others that I have. I've tried both a 40 and 30 degree bevel, and I'm using the same tool (Sharpmaker), grinding to the edge, but the edge just never gets as sharp. I get the feeling that BM's 154CM just isn't their best steel.

That definitely sucks about the handle slabs; I'll have to look at mine and see what kind of machining I'd have to do to make some custom scales for it. Tapering doesn't sound too bad; nothing a little sandpaper on some wood scales wouldn't fix, for instance. But that's a good headsup, because that's the one thing I don't like about the knife.

A few guys scored some of these while we were in Afghan, almost all of them ended up with a broken or bent tip. Unfortunately I wasn't able to aquire one.

I have one in M2HS steel and love the feel of knife and balance. I have not used it that much but always feel confident that I can handle most any task at hand when I have it on my side. It comes down to personal preference because there are a lot of knives in this category that would do the same. I do not feel that it is expensive at all. You get what you pay for with a Benchmade.

Its a knife, not a pry bar :D but the tip is actually slightly reinforced... perhaps a tanto style blade would better serve those guys..

I have the ATS34 version as well.It slices well and is light and thin, great for carrying.
