Benchmade or Spyderco poll

Taking all factors into account, which company is better?

I voted spydie because I didn't want to be left out. Also have more of them than Benchmade.

Both, I like lock backs and axis locks. The compression lock isn’t very comfortable for me. The Manix is a great design but is difficult for me to manage due to hand issues. The Delica and Bugout work very well for me.

I currently own 4 Benchmade and 5 Spyderco's, they are amongst my favorite, they are very different stylistically and I'd be hard pressed to choose one company over the other.

With that said, I bought them when the pricing was more reasonable. I love my 940-1 for example, but I don't think I'd pay the current 300+ US dollar to replace it were I to loose it; in fact I'm certain I would not, nor would I recommend any of my friends buying one.

And some Spyderco's I own are simply discontinued, so irreplaceable, so I carry those even less because of it.

So I refrain from carrying certain knives because I know if I loose them, they're gone for good, for different reasons but all made by Spyderco and Benchmade.

Spyderco makes great ergonomic designs but at some point I found that I prefer thumbstuds over holes. Between the two, I‘m much more likely to carry a Benchmade.

I prefer Spyderco for two big reasons:

1) offering exotic, optimized steels: superior heat treats, Mule team program, etc (tho it seems Benchmade has been putting out higher HRC Cru-Wear)
2) they listen to customers and interact with them: how many brands do you see the founder getting onto the forums to answer questions and listen to complaints/critiques

There are other reasons but those stand out to me. I also love Benchmade. Between both brands, it's hard to go wrong.

The Griptilian is my favourite "Spyderco" that Benchmade makes. It's a tough call between them. I like Benchmade for their outdoorsy fixed blades (especially the thin ones) and am torn between both companies for folders, depending on what day of the week it is.
