Benchmade or Spydie...

If all those knives are now VG-10 than spydercos web site need a big update and so do some of the vender webs sites I looked at. :footinmou

If your on a budget, you can't go wrong with the Endura. It may not look it at first glance, but that knife is a workhorse! Benchmade makes a very good blade as well, I've never owned one, but I've handled many. The AXIS lock is awsome. And it seem's to me that the there is no continuity when it comes to Spydie Steel. All told, if you are looking for a knife that can stand up to daily use and abuse, as well as deter potential attackers, I'd go Spydie.

just my 2 cents

I agree the Endura is a very good choice for pinching bucks.., but I'd go with the Griptilian for all the reasons mentioned. Really a very good knife for the $$$.

Diamond Cut II,
The griptillan's blade doesn't seem like a knife for self defense(to me).
Which exactly Griptilian you have in your mind? IMO it’s nothing wrong with 551 even for self defense...

I sold my Brand New Endura FRN once I got my Griptillian 551! Since the 551, I bought an 806D2 and a 440C Nimravus 145...and I like BM way more than an other company. The AFCK gave my SERE 2K a run for its money!

I've never seen that blade on a griptilian, but I like the serrated black blade of the one I saw. If I have enough money, then I'll end up getting the Spydies and both the Benchmade's:D . Thanks again.

knife11, I know what you mean. Spyderco's website is waaayyy behind.
1sks has current info, apparently, and pics showing the steel marked on the blades. The shop I go to still has a bunch of models in the older steels like AUS-8, and ATS-55. Not that there's anything wrong with those steels, but if you can have one in something "better", might as well go for it.

btw, not to be misunderstood, I'm a big fan of the Axis lock, I just think that, like all locks, it has it's own set of positives/negatives.
