I'm considering picking up a Benchmade Osborne 940 as another EDC, and would like to hear from those of you who have one. It would not be a hard use knife mostly when at the office, and on the road doing site visits. When on the road, I at times enter some uncomfortable areas, and like some piece of mind. Any other suggestions are welcome.

Note that the 940 is a very light weight, thin knife. I won't say flimsy, but almost. Since you say you don't need a hard use knife, it might do that trick. For the "uncomfortable areas", maybe something with a little more beef might be good, like a 710 or 950 Rift. Just my view of the world. I have a 940 and 943, and they just don't really float my boat, though they are fine knives and many folks like them. The upside is that they are very light in the pocket, and the thin profile makes them unobtrusive in the pocket. Flicks open easily, and sports nice S30V.

It's a well respected and capable knife. Big enough for anything you might need it for and light as a feather. No need to baby it either.

+1 to everything here. It might be the best all-around folder I own. It can go from office to garage work without skipping a beat.

I have carried a 940 in my rotation for 13 years. It used to be my carry knife onto airplanes up to 9/11. Always felt solid-enough for me when clipped to my pocket when overseas or in any US city.

It isn't meant to be a beefy "tactical" knife, but it'll cut when you need it for emergencies.

The 940 holds a special place in my heart because it was my first "real" knife 12+ years ago and the knife I've used the most, (so I'm a little biased.) It really is a great design though: thin, light, portable, sturdy blade, and versatile. The only negative I can think of is that the jimping isn't very effective, but that's a minor point. I don't think knives are the best option for self-defense, but if I had to pick one for that purpose I wouldn't choose the 940.

It's a very nice knife. I carry mine most days and it will stand up to a lot. Mine has served me for a long time and even though it has had a lot done to it, I still use it. Don't listen to those that say it can't be used for hard use, I've abused mine and the 940 won't fail you.

Funny, I just ordered one yesterday. Decided I needed one for my edc rotation after everything I've heard about them.

The 940 is not the blade shape that I like, I would choose the 943 instead. I think if the size is OK with you then it is a good knife. I like and carry a lot of the Benchmades that are slightly larger than the 940. If you like the 940 blade shape then there are others that are similar but bigger, the 810 and 950 IIRC. I've been tempted to buy one of them despite the blade shape just to try it out.

I had the 943. First Benchmade knife and it was awesome. Traded it and kinda regret it. Its a light sucker but will get the job done! Used mine heavily!

+1 on the 940. Everything said above is true light, slim and comfortable. Probably my favourite all around knife as it can go from light to heavy tasks without skipping a beat. I especially like action of the knife it requires very little effort to flick it open and it's balanced and quick opening.

A sound choice for all the needs you just discribed.
It's not my only knife but I can say, it's built to last you a lifetime.

How easy is it to scratch up those handles?

Surprizingly durable for everyday use...it's a sand blasted type texture.

I've used it many years in warehouse environments and it's got some scuffs and subtle wear.

I carry a 943 to the office almost every day. It's a very capable knife that feels feels big and small all at the same time. I know that doesn't make any sense, but it's my impression. It's slim, but long with plenty of cutting surface.
