Benchmade Osborne 940

Awesome knife, big in a compact package. Lots of cutting surface and that reverse tanto makes it very stabby. The 940 is my go to "slicer". As for the scratching of the handles, they hold up very well, you have to go out of your way to do that. They smooth out over time and get real comfy in the hand. Great design.

I just carried my 940 last night for the first time in a while. It is my go to knife when I don't want to feel like I'm carrying a knife. It just dissapears. Mine is an older one with the 154CM steal. Great knife. What is that larger Benchmade that has the same profile as the 940? Haven't seen that one yet.

You can't go wrong with BM's. I prefer the look of a black handle so I did a blade swap with a 943. You can however, buy a 943, and send it back to BM for a blade replacement ($25) and have them replace it with a 940 blade (I have an email from BM confirming they will do this, even though it violates their rule of putting a different blade on a different handle). More cost effective than buying 2 knives for a blade swap. You just have to make sure you get the right customer service rep.

Just ordered a 943S from Knifeworks... Cant wait to try this guy out based on the positive reviews I'm reading...

Strangely - BM site only lists 943, 943BK and 943SBK... No 943S... ???

I like my 940. It has cleaned trout and dressed a buck once. Best of all my wife bought it for me!

My 943 is one of my favorite knives. It's a lot of knife in a small, easy to carry package.

I beat the hell out of mine four days out of the week at my warehouse job. Ten hours full of chances to make hundreds of cuts through plastic and cardboard gives me a great idea of how well I'll like a knife long-term... my 940 has been well loved, always in my pocket. Even on my days off, it makes a great EDC.

I just got a 943 and I have to say, the value really isn't there. It's nice and about as well-built as it could be, but you aren't getting much knife for your money. If you REALLY like this particular design then it wouldn't be completely unreasonable to pay the $135 asking price, but for $35 less you could get a bigger Sage 1 with the same steel and better handle scales. The 943 isn't flimsy in any way, it's just very small, and it's smaller in person than pictures make it look.

I'm not hating on BM, I have a 551 and think the value is fantastic. I can't bring myself to say that the 943 is worth what they're charging, though.

The emissary, contego, and of course 940 osborne are all fantastic knives. I had a black on black 940 and really miss it, its one of my top 5 fav production knives still to this day.

How easy is it to scratch up those handles?

Scratches up kinda easily. But then again, I used mine heavily

This was after 2 months or so of usage. It ended up with more scratches but cant show since I did trade it. Regret it though. Loved that knife!

I have been searching for this exact thread! I bought the 943 with the intention of swapping out a 940 blade as I don't like the 943 blade. I called BM and as Nups said above, the guy stated, 'we can't swap parts of different models...'. How difficult is it to replace blades myself and still end up with a high quality functioning axis lock? Thanks

I have a 943 and I think it's a fantastic knife; one of my all-time favorite folders. It's slender and good-looking enough to be a "gentlemen's knife," but solid enough to handle anything else.

Highly recommended!

Stay sharp,
desmobob

I have the 943 Osborne, the drop point and black handled brother to the 940. The 940 series handles AWESOME. Lightweight, very comfortable in hand, classy enough looking, slim, and easy to use and manipulate. It is my favorite Benchmade that has an axis lock, by far. I say go for it 100%!!

Best,
Trev

I just ordered one for an EDC knife. My C.S. Recon 1 fell apart the other day. Well, the button on top of the blade to open it fell off when the microscopic screw holding it worked out. My fault for not noticing it and putting sealer on it. Anyway, until (if) I can get a replacement button I'm going with the 940. It should arrive in about a week.

You are gonna LOVE it bro!!!
You're going t find yourself just looking at it and smiling!!
Most flickable folder I have! Just a fun blade that cuts beautifully!!!
Did you get satin or black blade??
Good luck!!

I got the green with satin plain edge. One of these days I may get one of the SMKW blue combo edge to go with it and/or one ordered direct from Benchmade with the T-Patch emblem on the blade in memory of my dad who was in the 36th in WWII.
