Benchmade Prices

I have currently only four Benchmade folder left: 710-1401, 535-3, 560-03, and 560BK-1, all bought when the prices were much lower than they are now. They nicely cover the big, medium, and small spectrum and shall last my life and likely beyond (will probably move one of the Freeks). I have no plan to buy any more Benchmade knives at their current retail prices.

P. T. Barnum was right.

If someone is stupid enough to believe that high price alone is a reliable indicator of quality, then they deserve to be overcharged for everything. In fact, it is our duty to overcharge them so they believe they had the best of everything.

That said, quality if rarely found in cheap things.

Not the case anymore. GPknives used to not advertise prices and if you called in you could purchase for lower than MAP. They’ve since stopped doing that and I called to confirm with GPknives on the phone that Benchmade has now prevented them from selling for anything below MAP. Benchmade has now mandated dealers must sell at a certain price.
This is absolutely ridiculous! I can kinda understand MAP pricing but to try to control a business’s actual selling price is going too far. I swore off Benchmade’s years ago over their political stance, firearm demolition fiasco, and crazy high prices. This confirms my decision was the correct one. Absolutely DONE with Benchmade products.

I think they had a good overall selection for most folks to find something at a price point they feel comfortable with… 🤷‍♂️

Was just reviewing the Benchmade website. Under the FAQ section, 'What is covered under the warranty' it states that it covers both the blade and handle. I would agree with most that the prices are very high but the warranty has improved over recent months.

Benchmade has to work on their OTF prices even more than the regular knives. Why does a grivory handled Shootout cost $300 bucks on an average day? Pricing it higher than an Ultratech is craziness.

I'd say the market will dictate. It is reasonable that a company takes the costs of all hard items and overhead and applies a profit. If things get too expensive, that is reflected in reduced sales, at least until peoples disposable income increases or the manufacturer finds a way to reduce costs. I have several Benchmade knives, without exception they are well made. The Bugout costs more than my Kabar Dozier, but if performs better, but I'm also not afraid to lose or abuse the Dozier. Both have a place in my collection. That said, todays Benchmade knives are a little out of my price range. When things equalize, I will be likely to buy what I like.

Had a friend with the Ultem Mini Freek where the handle cracked around a screw. He sent it in and they sent it back even more broken. He emailed them and they ended up giving him a $400 gift certificate and he got some 3rd party titanium scales and still has the mini Freek and $400 Benchmade giftcard. That's pretty good CS.

Yes the prices are crazy but they do make a good product and like N Need4Knives said the warranty cant be beat.

Fun fact, just logged into my knifeworks account for the first time since 2020, last thing I bought was a knifeworks exclusive grizzly ridge for $79.95. I believe the price for a normal Grizzly before being discontinued had hit about double that. I guess the butterfly tax is about 100% over 4 years.
