Benchmade pricing seems to have changed

The way Kershaw make knives is pretty different from Benchmade. BM make everything to fill orders, their factory is set up so that if a dealer orders 20 green handled griptilians they can make 40 that day and make 20 contegos, and 25 710s, etc that same day. Kershaw do their productions in runs, where they focus on a specific model for a given time. This is because they have a lot of specific deadlines to meet with retailers and such (walmart is probably their biggest customer). So lower volume knives don't make as much sense to them unless you're talking about the ZT knives, which a lot of aren't super tactical anymore, but there does seem to be a deadspot between the 150 or so that ZT knives start at and the 60 or so kershaws regular lines go up to. They do have a lot of limited runs though that fit what you're talking about. Like that CPM 154 blur that you could get for about $100 with a handle with carbon fiber inlays or cheaper with a purple or toxic green alum handle (amazing deal for that BTW) or that BF run of skyli'knes in S30v.

I remember reading in the Kershaw forum from someone at Kershaw that knives in the $60-100 range don't sell and we should not expect more of them.

To stay on topic ten new pricing stinks.

In my opinion, the Kershaw forum was moderated just as badly as this. Except instead of an absent mod, the mod was defensive and made things worse. Either way, that is the range I like best. Maybe all the companies think this and that's why knives in that range are so darn hard to find.

The Benchmade forum here is less than a year old. Let's not get them to pull it by badmouthing/criticizing their reps. Just leave them be and keep it moving. Happy we have a BM forum and that they agreed to have one.

This is interesting. What price range for new in the box do you guys/girls think is Benchmades best sellers?

Old street price, not the new higher MAP enforced price.

$1.00 - $50.00
$51.00 - $100.00
$101.00 - $150.00
$150.00 - $200.00
$201.00 and higher

I will have to return the numerous Benchmade knives I bought only in the 60-100 dollar price range

Just so happens they are the same knives that got me into Benchmade in the first place.

Benchmade would know their own sales though.

If they are a sinking ship and this is the only way to save themselves I would actually buy at these prices just to keep them going.

I am glad I got in and now out with the knives I want.

Kevin

NVM. Idk why I thought the original comment was about Benchmade. I just saw it was Kershaw. What forum am I in?

Ya know what's funny ? A new 707 Sequel is $136. Hahaha.

Benchmade I am all set with you for now. Let me know when your prices come back down to Earth. And I'll be selling my 7505-132 when it comes in too. More money for me to buy Spydercos.

Spyderco for life !!!!!

Based on absolutely no research at all, I'd guess the $51 - $100 range would be where their best sellers fall. That guess is just considering that the Grip and mini-grip both fell within that category up until very recently. I haven't seen sales figures (so if someone has those, correct me) but I would think that they are far and away BM's best sellers.

...And I'll be selling my 7505-132 when it comes in too...

One would think that with the price point jumping so much on that knife that a tidy little profit could be had for those that bought those knives with the now non-existent discount coupon. I really like mine and knowing that I won't be buying any more BMs in the near future (unless something extreme happens) I think I'll just hang on to mine and actually use it. No safe queen. I really like it. :)

But if I knew then what I know now, I would have bought about a half dozen of them specifically for resale.

Yes sir , I was thinking the same thing. I bought mine at the discount price point. So when it arrives I will more than likely sell it here on the exchange.

Maybe as sales slow down a bit at Benchmade, they will have time to figure out how to center their Grip blades more consistantly.

If Spyderco is ever doing the same with their prices I am done with knives.

Did Spyderco ever have extra dealer discounts like BM?? Do they now??

All this does is slow down my BM buying -I'm still a real fan. Not just a "fair weather" fan.

Before the prices had changed, I attempted to order a BM 581. Unfortunately, the dealer I normally order from was already out of stock. I called them and over the phone they said that even though the MAP would be changing, they would still be able to do something with over the phone. Well yesterday I noticed they had the 581s back in stock so I called them to try and place my order, fully expecting for them to make some kind of discount as they had previously said. I was told over the phone there was nothing they could do to the price now. Apparently this isn't just MAP but a minimum selling price. So I called another one of the large online dealers who used to offer discount codes and they verified the same thing. Then I called another of the large on my dealers that use to use a code (some kind of shop thay sells cutlery) and was rudely told they could not adjust their prices and then if I tried to place an order over the phone they would charge me nine dollars additional shipping (WTH?)

So in summary, it doesn't look like the dealers can do anything to help out the customers . That isn't an MAP to me. That is price fixing.

I have a great idea. Let's have BM bring back the Made in China Red Class knives, and let those sell are market discounts. :D

please, for the love of everything that is holy, close this damn thread

I would second this, it's time isn't it? Kind of like watching the adventures of Zatoichi over and over without seeing the end of the episode.
