are they typically more valuable/treasured than the typical benchmade knife? any disadvantages/quirks/problems? i have the opportunity to pick one up and i was wondering if i should expect to pay a premium or not. it is a 910f. it's a nice looking knife. thanks!

i have afew BM protos (ie 710, 804, and used to have a 910) and they are worth a small premium, if in LNIB condition, i dont think there are any cons to them, my 710 has aluminum handles, which i prefer to the G10 on that model, and the 804 and 910 are the same as the std mods. if anything, imho, they seem to be a little better finished than your std BM, a little .

Yes, they're worth more. BM tends to release their knives with the following markings: Prototype - Pre-Release - First Production. These gets progressively higher in units produced. Any knives made after First Production is typically unmarked, with the largest production units. Like SIFU1A said, they'll only hold their value if kept NIB.

in tac knives mag they said that only about 150-200 710 protos were made w/alum handles, a very small # for BM i think, and i got $150 credit towards a crawford kasper ti folder for my 910S proto, and i swapped it to the infamous "JAXURMAN", and he wouldnt have given me that amount if it wasnt worth more, unless i of all people got over on jack, lol, which i doubt.........i miss him, he was nutz for sure!!!
